Rick Shiels predicts who will finish up on more majors out of Scottie Scheffler and Tiger Woods

Scottie Scheffler is the closest we’ve seen to Tiger Woods over the past two decades.

And Rick Shiels has now delivered his verdict on who will win more majors by the time they’ve retired out of Scheffler and Woods.

Steve Sands recently suggested that Scheffler will end his career with more major wins than Rory McIlroy.

But what about Woods’ haul of 15 majors? Is that number in Scheffler’s sights?

The 28-year-old Dallas native has been in imperious form over the past three years.

Woods recently claimed that Scheffler will win every week if he putts well, and he’s bang on the money there.

The PGA champion is ranked first in strokes gained approach to the green, second in strokes gained off the tee and first in strokes gained total.

His ball-striking is unrivalled at the very highest level.

And now Rick Shiels has delivered his verdict on who will end up with more majors to their name.

YouTube sensation Shiels is an extremely popular figure in the world of golf, especially amongst the younger generation.

He certainly knows what he’s talking about concerning all things golf, and his YouTube channel has more subscribers worldwide than any other golf influencer.

Shiels was asked who will win more majors out of Scheffler and McIlroy.

He then went on to discuss whether the American could beat Woods’ haul of 15 as well.

He responded, “Scottie Scheffler. And don’t get me wrong I still think Rory is going to get to 10. But I think Scottie has the potential of getting to… I don’t think he’ll beat Jack but I think he’ll sit somewhere between 10 or 15.

“I don’t think he’ll beat Tiger but he has got three in such a quick time. His golf game is scary, scary good. It’s frightening with how much he is winning by.

“He won the PGA Championship with a bogey on the last and he won it by five.

“He is the first golfer since Tiger when I see his name on the leaderboard and I think it’s game over, I honestly do.

“When I see his name anywhere near the leaderboard I just think it’s his. I have not had that feeling by anyone else since Tiger.

“Even when you see Rory’s name near there you think it doesn’t mean he’s going to get the job done.
If you see Bryson’s name up there, he’s had another great result, but even when you see him up there you don’t think he’s always going to get the job done. But when it’s Scottie you think it’s a given and I think the players are starting to feel that.“

That’s actually a very fair call from Shiels. It will be incredibly hard for Scheffler to catch Woods in the major wins department, but he should have more than enough in his locker to finish ahead of McIlroy when all is said and done.

Aside from Jack Nicklaus, Woods has been the most dominant force the game has ever seen.

The now 49-year-old’s record in major championships is truly breathtaking.

However, how do his numbers at the age of 28 compare with Scheffler’s?

Scheffler is obviously behind where the great man was at his age.

However, it’s worth remembering that over the age of 32, Woods won only one major.

If Scheffler remains fit and healthy, there’s no reason why he can’t make some real ground up on Woods over the next decade or so.
