2024 Senior US Open winner Richard Bland has shared why he was “absolutely fuming” after LIV Golf’s Singapore event at the start of May.
It’s been a super year for the Englishman. Bland currently sits 25th in LIV Golf’s individual standings and is coming off a ninth-place finish in Nashville.
Furthermore, Bland has landed two senior major championships, most recently the US Open at Newport Country Club.
LIV, despite taking a back seat in recent weeks, has been thrust back into the headlines after Jordan Spieth was quizzed about the breakaway tour during his press conference before the John Deere Classic.
Furthermore, Bland has also come to the fore after some fairly honest comments about his reasoning behind joining the breakaway tour.

Bland’s Cleeks GC finished third during LIV’s event on the Southernmost Point of Southeast Asia, behind Ripper GC and Fireball GC.
Speaking to LIV Golf’s YouTube channel, Bland admitted he and teammate Martin Kaymer were raging after missing out on the title.
“I think I made a double on eleven with a nine iron in my hand from the fairway, and I think Martin made a three-putted his last hole and maybe missed a four or five-footer on 16 or 17 as well,” said Bland.
The Englishman then admitted he and Kaymer were less than pleased.
He added: “I said to Martin, ‘Isn’t this great?’ We’ve just finished second here, and we’re absolutely fuming with it. I said look how far we’ve come.”
Bland also felt that Cleeks’ experience in Singapore was a big part of the team’s success during the following event in Nashville.
The 51-year-old said: “And to go win the very next one four weeks later was one of the most special experiences I’ve ever had. To do it with three of your friends, that was incredible.”
Richard Bland’s honest response on LIV Golf move
LIV Golf is undoubtedly on the up in recent weeks after Bryson DeChambeau’s recent US Open win at Pinehurst No.2.
However, the breakaway tour will always have its cynics due to the nature of the PIF’s funding.
Many players have delivered half-hearted reasoning behind their moves to LIV, often suggesting the money wasn’t the primary motive, but Bland was straight to the point.
“That was purely why I did it. I wasn’t trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes. I was honest and upfront of why I joined LIV, and it was purely for the money,” he told Golf Monthly.
“I know people have been slated, you know, ‘it’s growing the game, it’s doing this doing that, whatever,’ I purely went for one thing and one thing only, and I’m not ashamed to say that.”
