Jordan Spieth will continue the search to end his trophy drought elsewhere, having just watched Rory McIlroy win The Masters.

Tiger Woods helped Spieth win The Masters in 2015, a year in which he also emerged victorious at the US Open.

But American Spieth last won on the PGA Tour all the way back in 2022, with a 14th career win remaining elusive.

McIlroy meanwhile ended a drought of his own, with his victory at The Masters coming over 10 years after his previous major championship win.

Northern Irishman McIlroy is thinking of a multiple win season after his glory at Augusta, which was achieved via a playoff victory over Justin Rose.

Jordan Spieth already asked about completing the career grand slam after The Masters ends

Spieth meanwhile finished T14, with Rex Hoggard having been asked after the event if the burden now shifts to him for the career grand slam.

“I think so,” Hoggard told Golf Channel. “We were just talking about it with him this afternoon, so certainly the media have started asking about the idea that okay you’re on deck, you’re next up at the PGA Championship.

“I think there is something to be said for the idea that Jordan Spieth is not playing his best golf right now. His form is off. It seems like that particular golf course, Quail Hollow, is not a great fit for him. So it seems unlikely.

“You need to keep in mind that this hasn’t been done for two and a half decades. Tiger Woods did it last. Only six people have ever done this.

“This is the highest achievement you can ever have in golf, so once you start thinking about it that way and you realise it is not linear, Rory McIlroy taught us that.

“You would have thought that after he won The Open the fourth leg would be easy, but a decade later we learned it is really not.

“I think it is going to be hard for Jordan to get over that hurdle. I think it’s probably easier to get at the PGA than The Masters but that does not mean it is going to be easy.”

How did Jordan Spieth win his three major championships?

It is perhaps unsurprising that eyes are now already turning to Spieth to emulate McIlroy, but it also shows just how ruthless the sport can be.

McIlroy took 11 attempts to achieve the stunning feat, having now joined Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Woods on the exclusive list.

Spieth meanwhile, along with his 2015 successes at The Masters and the PGA Championship, won The Open Championship in 2017.

He remarkably finished second at the 2015 PGA Championship during that stunning year, but that remains his best result at the tournament.
