Jon Rahm’s participation in next year’s Ryder Cup is in doubt with the Spaniard reluctant to settle his outstanding fines with the DP World Tour.

Rahm owes over $1 million to the European authorities after being sanctioned for every LIV Golf event he played which conflicted with the DP World Tour schedule.

Rahm lodged an appeal, which has allowed him to participate in the Spanish Open as well as this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The Spaniard is also expected to feature at the Andalucia Masters, which will ensure that his DP World Tour membership remains intact and, in turn, his Ryder Cup eligibility. However, when 2025 rolls around, a similar situation is likely to occur, with Rahm racking up more fines.

Golf Channel pundit Rex Hoggard has commented on the ongoing saga, and the American is confident Rahm will be present at Bethpage Black next summer.

Hoggard was asked, “Rex, do you like his chances of us seeing him at Bethpage next summer?”

“I do; I think this goes back to the issue of what we’ve seen of Jon this year,” Hoggard replied. “I think he’s still clearly a world-class player. I think he can still dominate a field and still be on that team. The only question right now is what we’ve seen at the Olympics and what we saw this week in Spain.

“On Sunday, he doesn’t seem to have that gear. I would fully expect him to see him on that team next year simply because of how important he is regardless of what tour he plays.”

European Ryder Cup reaction to Jon Rahm’s current DP World Tour standoff

European captain Luke Donald was relieved after Rahm ensured he would feature in the upcoming events.

“I’m super happy he’s decided to do that,” Donald said. “Jon is a world-class player, and we’re certainly stronger with him in the team.”

“I made a point to go and see him a lot when I was around the tournaments at the majors and obviously swapped many messages with him over the past few months. I’m very happy. It keeps him eligible.”

European stalwart Justin Rose has urged Rahm to settle up with the DP World Tour and make himself available for the Bethpage Black event.

“But from my point of view, there’s a pathway to play the Ryder Cup if he wants it, and I think that’s all the DP World Tour can do,” said Rose. “They have their interests to protect, and I still think that it’s a doable situation should the player want to do it enough.”
