Donald Trump might be set for a second stint as US President but it seems the popular American won’t be getting everything his own way when it comes to golf.

Trump, as we know, is a love of all things golf and has a number of investments within the game as well as a love for just playing the game.

The President-elect is often talked about in the world of golf and just this week, Charley Hull admitted she’s a huge fan of Trump.

Furthermore, Cam Smith also revealed details of his round with Trump, admitting that the amount of people around the 78-year-old was ‘absolutely mental’.

However, while Trump has some popularity in the golf world and people like Bryson DeChambeau are big supporters, he won’t be getting his own way when it comes to having one of his courses host The Open.

R&A chief says whether Trump Turnberry could host The Open

Often called the jewel in the crown when it comes to all the majors in golf, The Open has been held at some of the most historic venues in the UK and Ireland.

However, when it comes to Trump Turnberry, despite it’s brilliance and well-respected layout, outgoing R&A chief Martin Slumbers has said that The Open will NOT be heading to Turnberry anytime soon.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Slumbers admitted he is a big admirer of Turnberry but conceded that while ever Trump is in the limelight, The Open won’t be coming.

“We will not be taking any of our championships to Turnberry until we’re comfortable that the discussion would be all about golf,” he said.

“But it remains in the pool of courses, subject to that one caveat.”

Trump name is not always a positive in golf

While Trump has a number of golf courses around the world, it’s clear that there is an element of the golf world that wants to avoid any sort of association for now.

Clearly, for Slumbers and the powers that be at the R&A, the idea of Trump talk dominating their signature event is something they don’t want to take a risk with.

For now, there are plenty of courses to choose from and as always, The Open will deliver.

However, it is a shame for Turnberry, given it’s often voted as one of the best course in the world and as it stands, will not get the chance to host one of the most revered tournaments in golf.
