The Open Championship gets underway today and Tiger Woods is once again one of the star attractions.

In the final major of the year, Woods is hoping to produce something a lot better than he showed during both the PGA Championship and US Open, where he missed the cut on both occasions.

For Woods, the chance to play around Royal Troon could well give him his best chance of making the cut.

The 15-time major winner is more than adept around the links course of the UK and having won three Opens before, he’ll be confident.

Of course, there’s been plenty of talk about Tiger in the build up. Colin Montgomerie has called on him to retire, while Woods fired back at those claims on Tuesday.

Woods has also admitted to feeling a lot better when it comes to his body after plenty of work in the gym.

However, looking at Woods in terms of his warm ups and practice, Sky Sports golf pundit Simon Holmes has suggested things aren’t looking too great.

Sky Sports pundit picks up on Tiger Woods looking out of form ahead of The Open

Speaking about Woods in in the build up to round one, Holmes, who is an experienced golf coach and now pundit, has suggested that Tiger isn’t actually looking too good.

“Tiger is out there. And he doesn’t look in amazing form to me,” Holmes commented.

“Quite a lot of foul balls. And a foul ball for him is a left ball, we have seen quite a lot of those.”

Tiger can produce when it matters

While we haven’t seen it much in more recent years, you don’t go winning 15 majors without being able to produce the goods when it really matters.

Ultimately, that’s what Tiger Woods will be hoping to do when round one gets underway today.

Many do feel The Open is his best chance of being in contention again and regardless of what’s happened on the range, Tiger knows these links courses very well.

Practice does matter. But at the end of the day, it’s going out and producing over the 18 holes what really matters.
