If there is one man who has had plenty to say about the PGA Tour and LIV Golf since the big split in golf, then it’s six-time major winner, Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson has been one of the top players for LIV when it comes to banging the drum and bigging up the Saudi-backed tour.
Indeed, Mickelson said this week he gets excited for LIV events and believes that the fan experience is a better one than that on the PGA Tour.
However, there may also be a scenario where Mickelson would never even have to be in this position to answer such questions.
And interestingly, Mickelson has now suggested that the PGA Tour very much had the chance to prevent a breakaway tour even being an option.

Phil Mickelson shares how the PGA Tour could have stopped LIV Golf being made
Mickelson has been more than critical of the PGA Tour since his move to LIV and he’s had plenty to say about topics like being an independent contractor, sponsor invites, and everything else that goes with it.
Now, taking to X, Mickelson has appeared to suggest that ultimately, a lack of listening from the PGA side led to him and others wanting out.
Interestingly as well, Mickelson continued to reply to fans getting involved and when one fan suggested Rory McIlroy has become what Mickelson was talking about, he was quick to agree.
What Phil Mickelson said when Jay Monahan defended the PGA Tour
This war of words has gone on for long enough and every so often, Mickelson cannot resist getting stuck in via the social media element of the game.
Indeed, it was only a few months that Mickelson hit back at Jay Monahan in dramatic fashion.
“The beauty of our model!!!,” Mickelson laughed at the time.
“It’s why the PGA Tour won’t ever be able to move throughout the world, why sponsors don’t know what they are buying, why fans haven’t seen all best compete against each other consistently for decades, and why no other sport successfully uses this model. It was great for me and all players but not good for anyone else.”
Clearly, something has gone on behind the scenes with ‘Lefty’ that has left a sour taste in the mouth.
Indeed, of all the LIV players who may fancy coming back to the PGA side one day, you’d have to say Mickelson is the least likely of them all!
