Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau were two of the first wave of players to jump ship from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf back in 2022.

Since the move to LIV Golf, the big-hitting DeChambeau has won three times, while Mickelson is still awaiting his first victory.

Mickelson has been seriously impressed by DeChambeau’s driving on LIV this season.

The 31-year-old American is very similar to the six-time major champion in the sense that they both love to give back to the fans.

Whilst Mickelson has really struggled for form over the past couple of years, DeChambeau has gone from strength to strength.

And now the 54-year-old has lifted the lid on what has impressed him most about his fellow LIV golfer.

Phil Mickelson says what he’s found ‘remarkable’ about Bryson DeChambeau since LIV move

DeChambeau is arguably the only golfer on LIV who has improved beyond all recognition since joining the Saudi-backed golf league.

Joaquin Niemann has played well over the past 12 months but has struggled in the majors, and the same can be said for Jon Rahm on the whole.

DeChambeau is the player who has stood out the most on LIV, and he continues to build his brand off the course as well.

Mickelson addressed the media ahead of LIV Virginia, and he spoke very highly indeed of DeChambeau.

He said, I think what’s been great about Bryson is I’ve always seen this side of him, this playful fun side, intelligent side, interesting side of him, and since he has really dove into the YouTube space, now everybody gets to see it because he’s able to showcase that and not have who he is be filtered by a middle person. He controls what content he puts out there and what he wants to shoot and so forth. So his personality comes out.

It’s been remarkable to see the evolution of it and the way the public has responded to him because he’s always been like that. It just hasn’t been able to be noticed, I guess, properly.

Mickelson is spot on about DeChambeau. Now that he is controlling his own destiny, DeChambeau has really blossomed into a hugely popular star.

DeChambeau is one of the favourites for the US Open

The 31-year-old American has all of the skills required to succeed at Oakmont next week.

He will be hoping for a solid week at LIV Virginia in the lead up to the US Open, and as long as nothing drastically bad happens, he will be full of confidence heading into the third major of the year.

DeChambeau has been driving the ball longer and straighter than ever this year.

His short game has been incredibly good as well.

Sure, his iron play has been found wanting at times, but if he can tidy up his approach play, DeChambeau may well be Scottie Scheffler’s main competitor at the US Open next week.
