The eagerly anticipated PGA Championship begins at Quail Hollow in nine day’s time.
Golf fans could be in for a tournament for the ages, with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler at the top of their games ahead of The PGA Championship.
Scheffler has decided to skip the Truist Championship ahead of the PGA Championship, but McIlroy will be in the field at The Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Excitement is building amongst golf fans, with the prospect of one of the most thrilling golf tournaments in history dangling in front of us all.
So many intriguing storylines are building ahead of the event, aside from Scheffler and McIlroy’s chances of winning.

Bryson DeChambeau has been in exceptional form on LIV this season, and the same can be said for Joaquin Niemann.
Meanwhile Justin Thomas has found some real form on the PGA Tour this season, whilst his good friend Jordan Spieth will be looking to join McIlroy in the Grand Slam club.
However, ahead of the event at Quail Hollow, the PGA of America have made a hugely questionable decision before the tournament begins.
Golf fans not happy with PGA Championship’s Dustin Johnson decision
Johnson received a special invitation to play in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow next week.
His five-year exemption that qualified him for entry into major championships is after winning The Masters in 2020 is now finished, after Rory McIlroy’s victory at Augusta National last month.
And many golf fans took to social media today in reaction to the news that the two-time major champion will be at Quail Hollow next week.
One golf fan said, “What a mess the OWGR and PGA Tour have made of golf. Now a popularity contest. Who’s next to shoot 90 in a major???“
Whilst another took the sarcastic route by saying, “He does know it’s four rounds. Right?“

Meanwhile, one golf fan poked fun at Johnson’s poor form recently, “Another mediocre 2 day appearance awaits..“
A fourth fan thinks there are players out there who are more deserving of an invite, “He MC in the Masters and MC in 2/4 majors last year, and hasn’t done anything on LIV this year. Strange invite.“
A fifth follower of the game echoed a similar sentiment, “DJ will not make the cut and will be heading back to his boat Friday night. What a waste of an invitation.“
Meanwhile, another golf fan was not happy with DJ’s invite either, “Field filler, will be a non factor if he even makes the cut.“
Whilst another fan continued that theme, “Waste of a spot. Might as well give it to Rickie Fowler.“
And an eighth golf fan doesn’t think he deserves an invite into the PGA, “Doesn’t deserve it…earn it with good play.“
Dustin Johnson’s LIV record in 2025
Johnson has been in really poor form this season for his standards.
Since joining LIV, the 40-year-old has three wins to his name, but the last of those came way back in February 2024.
This season, Johnson’s best finish was a tie for fifth at LIV Singapore.
He finished in a tie for seventh at LIV Mexico, but his best finish aside from those two events was a tie for 27th at LIV Miami.
He has finished outside the top 30 in all the other events he has played this season, and he missed the cut at The Masters.
Going by his form this season, Johnson will do well to make the cut at The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
