Scottie Scheffler continued his dominance in world golf by defending his Hero World Challenge title in the Bahamas.

Scheffler used a new putting grip en route to victory, with the American signalling his intent for 2025 with the triumph.

The world number one won seven times on the PGA Tour in 2024, with Scheffler picking up 727.5 ranking points in his latest campaign.

He will now be eyeing further success next time out, although Scheffler must first partner fellow PGA Tour member Rory McIlroy in Las Vegas.

The duo will take on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in the match, with Shadow Creek Golf Course playing host next week.

Peter Finch makes Scottie Scheffler and Tiger Woods comparison

Previous players in the exhibition event include Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods, with comparisons unsurprisingly now being drawn between the latter and current star Scheffler.

Discussing Scheffler’s season on The Rough Cut Golf Podcast, Peter Finch said: “It’s right up there with Tiger’s.

“The thing you have got to remember is that when Tiger was winning all these events and accumulating all these mind-blowing stats, it still has to be ranked among the best you have ever seen because of what he did in his whole career.

“We are talking the second most major championships, the most cuts, world number one for four million years. He is still the GOAT in my opinion.

“But this season ball striking wise, wins wise, has been just as good. He’s just not quite as cool as Tiger. He’s just not as flamboyant or as all-powerful as Tiger was in that era so it’s easy to almost overlook it but he’s playing unbelievable golf.”

Scottie Scheffler and Tiger Woods have very different 2025 goals

Scheffler will do well to block out the Woods comparisons, which will come as an honour but perhaps also a distraction.

He does, however, seem fully focused on the task at hand, having enjoyed a lengthy break before triumphing at the Hero World Challenge.

Woods meanwhile is not chasing success but rather fitness at this moment in time, having been forced to withdraw from the Hero World Challenge.

He has the TGL to prepare for in early 2025, with the new competition set to suffer a massive blow if one of its founders cannot take part.

Back injuries have plagued the 15-time major champion for several years now, with fans and indeed the player himself undoubtedly desperate to see Woods back to full strength as soon as possible.
