Scottie Scheffler might have won the Hero World Challenge this weekend but a lot of the discussion around him was a surprise change in putting stroke.

Scheffler shocked everyone but coming to the Bahamas with a new-look ‘claw’ grip with the putter and in the main, it helped him around the course.

Putting was seen as Scheffler’s weakness at times in 2023 and prior but he’s worked hard at his game on the greens, with the new-look method doing the business at the Hero.

Scheffler spoke of how comfortable he was with the new method, while Tiger Woods claimed Scheffler will finish top ten most weeks if he’s performing on the greens.

And according to Scheffler, the new way of working could well be here to stay.

Scottie Scheffler confirms if he’ll use his new putting technique at The Sentry

Speaking to the media after picking up his ninth win of 2024, Scheffler got onto his new putting stroke and admitted that for now, he sees it continuing right up until the Sentry in January.

“Yeah, going into this week it was something I wanted to test out. Like I said, you can always practice and do everything at home, but competition’s just a slightly different animal,” Scheffler said.

“It was good to come out here and compete and play under pressure, play with the lead, play close to the lead most of the week and I felt really comfortable. I would definitely assume that it’s going to be there in Maui. Like I said, I’ll go home and assess the week, talk to Phil.

“Overall I felt like the results and the way I felt over the ball, I was really comfortable in competition and I was pretty pleased.”

Scheffler will dominate if he improves his putting

To pick an apparent ‘weakness’ from Scottie Scheffler’s game is a hard ask in itself but the fact remains if he improves his putting, then he wins a lot of tournaments.

The stats show Scheffler’s putting was actually better than Tiger Woods from 2000 and if the world number one improves on that, then it could be game over.

The field know that Scheffler is the man to beat in most events and they’ll be fearful that he’s now found a way to get the ball in the hole even quicker.

2025, then, could see an even more dominant year from Scheffler.
