Peter Finch has responded to being asked whether he actually enjoyed the YouTube video Bryson DeChambeau filmed with Donald Trump, with the pair taking part in a Break 50 challenge.
Whatever you think of President Donald Trump, there is absolutely no question that there was a level of intrigue like no other when Bryson DeChambeau announced that a video with the 78-year-old would be coming. DeChambeau had to insist that his video with Trump was not political before it was uploaded.
Of course, the Republican nominee was not the only selling point for the video. Trump labelled DeChambeau the best golfer in the world, and there is no doubt that the two-time major champion has become one of the most popular figures in the game right now. Few will ever forget how he celebrated his US Open victory at Pinehurst back in June.
Peter Finch reveals if he enjoyed Bryson DeChambeau’s video with Donald Trump
At the time of writing, the video has had 9.8 million views while also receiving well over 350,000 likes. YouTube no longer publicises the number of dislikes, but that would also be very interesting to see.
Rick Shiels admitted that he was shocked by the reaction to the video. But perhaps Peter Finch has helped spell out why so many simply had to watch it, regardless of their views of Trump.
Speaking on The Rough Cut Golf Podcast, Finch was asked whether he enjoyed the video.

“I think, yeah. Yes, to the point of this being this spectacle that was so unexpected and you had to watch. And Bryson played some great golf, I’m not so sure I enjoyed President Trump’s putting style,” he said.
“It’s unusual, isn’t it, when you get such a polarising figure on a very popular channel with a creator who’s definitely on the ascending arc, and we’ll get into the numbers shortly, but if you’re a fan of Trump and you’re a fan of golf YouTube who doesn’t really care about the politics, you’re going to have really enjoyed that video. I think it came across pretty well, in all respects. I don’t think I felt too uncomfortable watching it, because I was trying to put aside any kind of personal opinions,” he went on to add.
YouTube golf reaching new heights
Perhaps it should not be a surprise that so many watched the video, as few figures divide opinion like the 45th President of the United States. Those who love Trump would have loved watching him play alongside one of the biggest names in golf right now.
And those who dislike Trump would have been watching to see if all of the rumours about his game were true as there has been so much said about what he does on a golf course down the years.
Ultimately, it did appear that Trump had an incredibly impressive game for someone of his age, even if, as Finch suggests, his putting stroke is unlikely to be found in any textbook ever written on the sport.
And DeChambeau deserves enormous credit for setting a new bar when it comes to the YouTube golf genre. It is hard to think of what could possibly top the numbers that that video has received – and will likely continue to attract over the next few years.
