Donald Trump has revealed who he believes to be the best golfer in the world right now.

Golf is enjoying a golden period right now, with Xander Schauffele over the weekend becoming the latest current star to secure a second major title.

The 30-year-old joins the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau on two major titles, and it is going to be fascinating to see how their tallies change over the coming years.

Certainly, Schauffele and Scheffler could have an amazing rivalry on the PGA Tour, while DeChambeau, rather than Rahm, appears to have really benefitted from moving to LIV Golf and playing a less congested schedule.

DeChambeau came out on top after one of the greatest days in major championship history this year, when he beat Rory McIlroy by one to clinch his second US Open title. At that moment, it appeared that the 30-year-old was set to be the player to give Scheffler the biggest competition in the majors.

The Open Championship definitely did not go DeChambeau’s way, with the American missing the cut at Royal Troon. DeChambeau suggested that his equipment was not helpful on links golf.

But it appears that he has one big supporter in the 45th President of the United States, with the pair taking part in one of DeChambeau’s Break 50 challenges on YouTube. Ahead of the round, Trump suggested that he has been hugely impressed by DeChambeau.

“I feel great. I feel like I have the best player in the world right now. He’s a winner. He knows how to do it. It’s a very hard thing to do [break 50], it sounds easy, but it’s not easy to do. But we’re going to have fun trying! He is the longest hitter by far and I know them all,” he said.

The US Open champion is definitely in the conversation

Obviously, DeChambeau does the majority of the heavy lifting in the challenge, which sees the pair tee off from the front tees and play a scramble in an attempt to shoot below 50.

But it has to be said that Trump is a very, very good player for his age. His putting stroke is interesting to say the least, but he regularly hits the fairway with the driver and can definitely strike the ball cleanly.

And, regardless of a person’s politics – some are going to absolutely love the video, and others will definitely hate it – there is no denying that it is a remarkable moment for YouTube golf.
