The BMW PGA Championship is underway at Wentworth, and Rory McIlroy is off to a fast start at the famous Surrey venue.
The Northern Irishman carded a five-under 67 as he looks to bounce back from last weekend’s Irish Open disappointment.
Other notable names at the top of the leaderboard include Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre and Victor Perez.
Low scoring is on the cards this week at Wentworth, and Sky Sports pundit Paul McGinley has shared what score he thinks is needed to win this week’s BMW PGA Championship.

- REVEALED: What Gareth Bale and Rory McIlroy were talking about at Wentworth ahead of the BMW PGA Championship

Speaking during Sky Sports, McGinley anticipates scoring to reach as low as 20 under.
“The thing about it is to look at the scoring already in relatively soft conditions,” McGinley said. “The guys are so good now, and they take advantage of these pretty benign conditions.
“They hit the ball so far that the par fives are pretty much par fours. You have got to race to -20 plus. And the importance of putting is really important. Someone who wins this week will have putted really well and rank highly in the putting stats.”
Golf fans in for a special week at the BMW PGA Championship
With the likes of McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Billy Horschel in action, fans at Wentworth are in for a treat at this week’s DP World Tour event.
Conditions look favourable, and the course is playing relatively easy. For McIlroy, landing the flagship event would be the perfect way to bounce back from last week’s disappointment at Royal County Down.
The Northern Irishman has struggled during the latter stages of events this season and will be desperate to get back to winning ways.
McIlroy hasn’t won since the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, which took place the week before the PGA Championship.
