Patrick Reed’s move to LIV Golf in 2022 certainly did not benefit his reputation on the PGA Tour.

Seemingly frustrated with the PGA Tour’s makeup, the 2018 Masters winner opted to join the PIF-backed venture after its first event in London.

Since moving to LIV, Reed has finished 4th, 6th and 20th in the individual standings and is currently the 4Aces’ star man alongside Dustin Johnson.

Reed believes LIV has injected new interest into golf, and the American appears happy with his decision to quit the PGA Tour two and a half years ago.

Reed made his LIV Golf debut in Portland and was thrust into the media spotlight alongside new signings Brooks Koepka and Pat Perez.

Initially, the former Masters winner spoke of his excitement about joining the Saudi-backed venture.

“I’m really excited,” said Reed. “Anytime I can bring that team aspect and go out and play for something other than just myself. I’m out there playing not only for family and everybody like that, but I’m also playing for my teammates. And for some reason that gives me a little more of an edge, a little more of a drive to go out and play even harder. So, having 14 opportunities to do that throughout the year is unbelievable. I can’t wait, and honestly, for me, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The American went on to discuss his reasoning behind joining LIV. “For me, there were a ton of things that I was looking at. It’s not only just schedule-wise, but being the guy who’s played 30 to 35 events my entire career and basically living through Facetime watching my kids grow up,” Reed added.

“I wanted to spend more time with my children. I wanted to be a dad. And to have an opportunity where I can play with some of the top players in the world and, on top of it, have an opportunity that I feel like for me is more suitable to see who the best player is that week because everyone starts at the exact same time. There is no such thing as a drawer anymore. Now you’re on the golf course at the exact same time. Whatever the weather is that day, that’s what you’re playing. And I just feel like it’s more of a family environment out here.”

What Dustin Johnson said to Patrick Reed before he quit PGA Tour

Reed, as previously mentioned, is now an integral part of the 4Aces, and the Texan also discussed Johnson’s influence during his first LIV press conference.

“I mean, just these past couple of days being around these guys has been unbelievable. Getting calls from D.J. and some of these guys telling me how amazing London was, it’s something I feel like I wanted to be a part of,” Reed added.

“And now, being able to hang out with my little ones, who are eight and four already, I get to spend a lot more time with them. And for me, that’s huge, and that’s really everything for right now.”

Has Patrick Reed played elsewhere in 2024?

In addition to participating in LIV, Reed also played several DP World Tour events to boost his dwindling world ranking. The PIF-backed venture has not received any ranking points. As a result, Reed has fallen to 129th place.

With the 34-year-old only exempt for The Masters, Reed played the Italian Open in a bid to play The Open at Royal Troon. The Texan has also featured on the Asian Tour.

Reed carded a remarkable 59 at the Hong Kong Open, becoming only the second player in history to achieve such a feat on the circuit.

Reed played six DP World Tour events throughout the year and didn’t miss a cut. However, the American only finished in the top ten once.
