Patrick Cantlay fell just short of another success at the Tour Championship, where he narrowly lost out to Tommy Fleetwood.

Fleetwood loved the fans at East Lake, where he clinched his first win on the PGA Tour after triumphing at the Tour Championship.

Englishman Fleetwood ended his four rounds on 18-under, securing a three-shot victory over American duo Russell Henley and Cantlay.

Corey Conners, Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young meanwhile all finished in a tie for fourth on 14-under.

World number one Scheffler won the Tour Championship in 2024, following in the footsteps of Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy in 2023 and 2022 respectively.

This year’s runner-up, Cantlay triumphed in 2021, finishing on 21-under to claim a one-shot win over Jon Rahm.

Fans slammed Cantlay for his slow play at the Tour Championship, with the American now sending a message to his followers after the conclusion of the event.

How did Patrick Cantlay perform at the Tour Championship?

Cantlay was among the American players looking to impress Keegan Bradley at East Lake given the imminent arrival of the Ryder Cup.

Bradley, who finished T7 at the Tour Championship, will shortly announce his captain’s picks for the team event at Bethpage Black.

And it’s fair to say that Cantlay will have caught his eye, having missed out on an automatic qualifying spot.

He occupies 15th place in the American Ryder Cup rankings, but the eight-time PGA Tour winner looks set for a call-up from Bradley.

Worryingly, however, the 33-year-old has not won on the PGA Tour since his 2022 BMW Championship success.

That could play on Bradley’s mind ahead of the New York tournament, with Bradley’s potential spot perhaps also dependent on whether or not the captain picks himself to play.
