Tommy Fleetwood finally earned his first PGA Tour win at East Lake on Sunday, as he reigned victorious at the Tour Championship.
It’s fair to argue that there has not been a more popular winner all season long than Fleetwood and he fully deserved his victory at the Tour Championship.
The 34-year-old Englishman’s game was quite simply superb all week long, and the way in which he held his nerve during the final round was hugely impressive.
Fleetwood was paired with Patrick Cantlay on day four of the Tour Championship, and that in itself came with its own problems.
Cantlay’s pace of play was tediously slow all day long, but Fleetwood didn’t let that bother him.
Before his final round, Fleetwood admitted that he has been delighted with his play at East Lake this week.
He was more than deserving of his win, and he shared his delight immediately after leaving the final green.
Tommy Fleetwood comments on the fans at East Lake after Tour Championship win
Fleetwood received huge support from the crowds this week in Atlanta.

He is one of the most popular players in the game, so that’s no surprise.
Fleetwood was asked what he thought of the East Lake fans immediately after finishing off his final round on Sunday.
He said: “They are amazing. It makes me a bit emotional. I am always so lucky with the support that I get. I said this last month or so, the buzz that has been around me when I have been in contention has been amazing. To get support like that is so special and I never want to lose that. I hope everybody knows how grateful I am for it. I said we will do it together and we did. I am so happy for everybody who has supported me through all of this.“
Fleetwood’s affable nature and never-say-die attitude have endeared him to a lot of people over the years.
And the 34-year-old’s fans will now be hoping that his win at the Tour Championship is just the tip of the iceberg.
Tommy Fleetwood sums up first win on the PGA Tour
Fleetwood was asked if he had his recent defeats on his mind down the stretch at East Lake.
He replied: “You just keep learning, don’t you? I guess this one there was Travelers and Memphis and plenty before. This probably wasn’t the most comfortable I have been as they rack up you start to think of them.
“But I think I have had a great attitude throughout it all and I was a bit erratic today at times, but I was really proud of how I found my swing again on the 11th or 12th hole. I changed my routine a bit but when you have lost it so many times, a three shot lead down the last doesn’t feel like that many!“
Then Fleetwood was asked how he feels after finally getting over the line on the PGA Tour.
He said: “I am proud of what I have done before. Whether I have won or not I have still been proud of my career so far, knowing I have a long way to go and a lot to learn. This doesn’t change that really, just hopefully one win is the first of many to come. You can’t win plenty if you don’t win the first one.
“I am just so happy that I got it done. I will continue to try and get better and be the best that I can be.“
Now he has one win under his belt, there will surely be many, many more to come.
Fleetwood is finally a PGA Tour winner, following his triumph at the Tour Championship and he will be feeling on top of the world right now.
