Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau are like chalk and cheese when it comes to their golf games, and indeed their personalities.

Cantlay plods his way around the golf course methodically and partakes in little interaction with the fans, if any at all.

Meanwhile, his Ryder Cup partner DeChambeau is the complete opposite, with his high-octane playing style being a huge hit with the galleries.

Despite the criticism from Brandel Chamblee and others, DeChambeau’s Ryder Cup teammates have all spoken very highly of him ahead of the showdown at Bethpage Black.

DeChambeau will be hugely important for the US Ryder Cup team this week, what with his prodigious power off the tee and his ability to whip up the crowds.

Meanwhile, Cantlay will be hoping to let his golf do the talking, rather than get involved in exchanges with the fans.

However, that may prove to be an impossible task at Bethpage!

Cantlay received a captain’s pick from Keegan Bradley last month, while DeChambeau qualified for the team automatically.

And both will have key roles to play for the US team this week.

In spite of his usual stoicism, Cantlay has been known to take banter from Ryder Cup fans really well in the past, and he’ll need to interact with the crowds as much as he can this week.

Cantlay addressed the media at Bethpage on Tuesday and fielded questions about his teammate, DeChambeau.

The eight-time PGA Tour winner said: Yeah, we’ve played on a few team events together, Presidents Cups and Whistling Straits Ryder Cup. He’s great in team events. I was watching him hit drivers on the range the other day, and I’m glad he’s on our side. He’s a showman out there. I think he’s going to get the crowd fired up. It’s really great anytime he’s on these teams because he’s such a fantastic player.

DeChambeau will undoubtedly take on the role as chief instigator when it comes down to firing up the fans at Bethpage.

There is no doubt that he is built perfectly to fulfil that role, just like his captain, Keegan Bradley.

What Patrick Cantlay really thinks of US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley

Cantlay is clearly a very big fan of captain Bradley.

He responded when asked by reporters to share his thoughts on the 39-year-old from Vermont.

Cantlay said: Yeah, Keegan is so passionate, authentically passionate about this event and about being captain and doing the best possible job he can. It’s a real pleasure to be on the team with him leading because it’s easy to buy in because you know that there’s buy-in from the top.

Keegan has just been fantastic so far. I know I speak for the rest of our team saying that he’s doing everything he possibly can to put us in a position to succeed, and we’re grateful to him and how much time and effort he’s put into doing the best job as captain.

Just like DeChambeau, Bradley will play a huge role in pumping up the crowds during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

He is an incredibly passionate human being and there probably would not be a better fit to captain the US Ryder cup team in New York than Bradley himself.
