The Travelers is into its final two days and just when we think we’ve seen it all in golf, Collin Morikawa has turned up with a fresh idea when hitting his iron shots.
Morikawa is two under par and seven off the lead as he goes in search of a first win on the PGA Tour since the Zozo in 2023.
The American has been playing well for some time and has come close to winning, including a runner up finish behind Russell Henley at the Arnold Palmer this season.
Still, his quest for a win goes on and that’s led him to try weird and wonderful things to get it right.
At The Travelers, Morikawa has been spotted wearing no golf glove when hitting certain shots.
And when asked about that tactic, fellow player Nick Taylor has given his thoughts on Morikawa’s idea.

It’s so odd to see a golfer with no glove at all. While we’ve seen players like Aaron Rai adopt the two glove method to good effect.
However, the lack of glove is surely hard to control and for Nick Taylor, it’s something he’d just not be able to deal with.
“I saw that. These conditions, the club would fly out of my hands. Either my hands are too sweaty or I’d be too nervous about it,” Taylor said.
“Yeah, honestly we’ll try anything. We’ll literally try anything. It’s not surprising that somebody has done that. Someone of his calibre I guess I’m probably a little bit surprised.
“But it’s amazing, we’ll mess with something, and if it works on the range, you try it one day, it works, you just let it go, and one day you might catch fire. If he doesn’t like it, I’m sure he’ll change back next week.
Yeah, we’re always tweaking. Doesn’t matter what level you’re at.”
Golfers who never wore gloves on the PGA Tour
Collin Morikawa’s experiment might seem odd right now, but he’s not the first player to play the game without a glove at all.
In fact, Lucas Glover is a player on the PGA Tour right now who adopts that method, while the great Fred Couples is well known as probably the best player to never wear them.
Ben Hogan is another big name who never bothered with the gloves, while Moe Norman also never bothered.
There are others too, with the likes of Corey Pavin and Lee Janzen joining this wonderful group of individuals.
Whether it works out for Morikawa, remains to be seen.
