Nick Faldo has become the latest expert to compare world number one Scottie Scheffler to Tiger Woods.

Even though Rory McIlroy arguably had a better 2025 season, there is no debate over the best golfer on the planet at the moment.

The same could be said when Woods was winning several tournaments every year during his prime (1999-2003).

Faldo has now explained the “amazing” trait that separates Scheffler and Woods from other players

Nick Faldo compares Scottie Scheffler’s ‘mindset’ to Tiger Woods

Scheffler has been on top of the world rankings since May 2023 and has shown no signs of letting up.

He has won 15 events in the last two years, including The Masters, The Open, the PGA Championship, and the Olympics.

Faldo thinks Scheffler’s dominance is due to his “lovely mindset” that convinces him he can win any tournament.

“Scottie seems to be very clear-headed right now,” Faldo told the Belfast Telegraph. “He’s in that wonderful moment where he trusts his game 100 percent.

“It’s like Tiger was. Scottie’s in that lovely mindset and routine of going to every tournament thinking, ‘How do I find a way to win this?’

“Whereas other guys are just trying to get to Sunday. Some guys are choking on Thursday, but Scottie is choke-free at the moment, which is amazing.”

It’s still too early to compare Scheffler’s career achievements to Woods’, but the 29-year-old is certainly trending toward the GOAT debate.

Nick Faldo doubts Rory McIlroy will win more majors

Faldo also spoke about McIlroy’s prospects after having the best year of his professional golf career.

McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam at The Masters and won five other events, including The Players and the Irish Open.

Who is the better player: Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler?

Some experts have since predicted the Northern Irishman to win several more majors before he retires, but Faldo completely disagrees.

“It is like climbing Everest, you don’t turn around and say, ‘Let’s go up again next month,’” Faldo said on whether he expects McIlroy to win more majors.

“There was so much emotion at Augusta, and you cannot reproduce the emotion to win a major like that again, so I think it will be tough for Rory to win another one.”
