Max Greyserman has been praised despite suffering a nightmare final few holes at the Wyndham Championship.

Greyserman led by four shots with five holes to play at the Wyndham Championship, having shot an eagle on the 13th.

But Sedgefield Country Club had other ideas for the American, who then fell back with a quadruple bogey on the 14th.

Matt Kuchar called the Wyndham course ‘nasty’, and that is exactly what it was for Greyserman in the dying stages.

He recovered with a birdie on the 15th, but suffered another setback with a four-putt double bogey on the 16th.

Aaron Rai meanwhile flew up the standings, with the Englishman capitalising on Greyserman’s mistakes to clinch the title.

Despite the disappointment, the PGA Tour rookie has taken a very positive approach to his final round, having finished two shots behind Rai.

“I played really good golf, executed really well,” said Greyserman, as per Golf Central. “Had a four or five shot lead with five holes to go.

“If you’re doing that on a PGA Tour event you are doing something exceptionally well. That is something I am going to walk away with. And making that birdie after making that eight. I am going to walk away with that.

“I am going to walk away with more confidence, look at the positive things and learn from the mistakes.”

Paige Mackenzie impressed by Max Greyserman

While Greyserman certainly made it easier for the champion, the Englishman can be very proud of his final round 64, with Matt Fitzpatrick congratulating Rai on his Wyndham win.

He secured his first PGA Tour title on what was his 89th start, with Rai battling his opponents and the North Carolina weather to come out on top.

But American rookie Greyserman can also hold his head high after the fine display throughout the event at Sedgefield.

The 29-year-old was rightfully happy with his overall performance, with fellow professional Paige Mackenzie hugely impressed by Greyserman’s approach on and off the course.

“How good was that interview?” Mackenzie said on Golf Central. “He had such incredible perspective so quickly and immediately walking off the green. I think we saw that throughout the day too.

“We saw his temperament throughout the day staying pretty level and him being able to make mostly good decisions outside of perhaps the lay up on the 14th. But very impressive as it relates to taking away the positives from today.”
