DP World Tour star Matt Wallace is never shy on an opinion about the game and he’s admitted he’s proposed a big change to the tour’s current schedule.
At the moment, the DP World Tour is very much seen as the third in line, with the PGA and LIV tours seen as the two places to be for the biggest names in the sport.
However, the DP World Tour does still attract some big names to certain events, with the likes of the BMW and the Scottish Open often filled with stars.
Of course, the DP World Tour showed it has something to offer with the drama of Julian Guerrier’s win at the weekend.
But away from that, Ryder Cup hopeful Wallace has said that he feels the DP World Tour officials really need to push the national opens more.

Matt Wallace tells the DP World Tour to make more of the national opens
Speaking on the Sky Sports golf podcast, Wallace got onto the subject of the DP World Tour and it’s current standing in the game.
And according to Wallace, more emphasis needs to be placed on the national opens to really boost the tour’s profile.
“There needs to be – again it’s the French Open, I think it opens the DP World Tour – I have spoken to Guy Kinnings about this and a few other people on the tour,” Wallace said.
“The national opens need to be the big events on this tour. We are able to travel to the best cities in the world and the national opens need to be the biggest events on the tour.
“It will get people coming from all over the world to get people to say they are the French Open champion, the Italian Open champion or the Spanish Open champion. National opens are huge.
“Hopefully that can come as some point in the future.”
Wallace has a point about the national opens
It’s an interesting take this from the Englishman and in fairness to him, he makes a very good point.
The British Masters, The Spanish Open, the French Open, are all massive tournaments that really should be held to higher acclaim around the world.
As Wallace says here, the feeling of winning a national open should be a big driver for players.
As we see with the four majors, a lot of players focus their entire seasons around being at their best for those tournaments.
There’s no reason, then, that the national opens can’t have that same feeling.
