The DP World Tour can often be cast aside when talking about the current state of golf but it has roared back into life this weekend with a fine display of it’s value to the game.
With many in golf on the wind down or preparing for the end of season tournaments on the DP World Tour, sometimes these autumn time events can go under the radar.
This weekend has seen the Andalucia Masters be the event for fans to tune into and in the end, it didn’t disappoint.
A stunning nine hole playoff between Julian Guerrier and Jorge Campillo resulted in Guerrier finally picking up his first ever win on the DP World Tour.
For Guerrier, it had been a long-time coming, with this his 230th start.
Of course, the drama was there for everyone to see but 2024 has been a season of drama in general and in what’s a big credit to the DP Tour, they’ve offered a serious amount of unpredictability.

Julian Guerrier shows DP World Tour value as he becomes 15th maiden winner this year
While we see plenty of players win on the PGA Tour and at times, it is their first win as well, we also see a lot of repeat performers.
Just this year alone we’ve seen Scottie Scheffler dominate, while Xander Schauffele won two of the four majors and the likes of Rory McIlroy and other big names are often in contention.
However, on the DP World Tour, we’ve now been treated to a whopping 15 new winners on the tour in just the last year alone.

Guerrier’s win today put him as number 15 for the year and he follows the likes of Joaquin Niemann, Angel Hidalgo, and Niklas Norgaard in securing big wins.
In a way, it very much proves that while not always being the most lucrative or attractive in terms of some of the events put on, the DP World Tour does have something to offer the world of golf.
Unpredictability and jeopardy is what makes many sports as good as they are for a fan.
Seeing so many new winners, effectively meaning you’re unable to easily call a winner, makes golf that bit more exciting.
And at a time when Rory McIlroy appears to be being proven right about dwindling golf viewing figures, this sort of thing can be just what golf needs.
