Matt McCarty names the two coolest players he’s met so far on the PGA Tour

Rookie Matt McCarty has been one of the stories of the FedEx Cup fall stretch on the PGA Tour.

McCarty won the Black Desert Championship just months after winning three times on the Korn Ferry Tour.

As a result, the left-hander, who idolises Phil Mickelson, will play at the PGA Championship and Masters in 2025.

Despite only being on tour for just over a month, McCarty has been getting to know some of the more seasoned pros, and there are two players for whom he’s already gained a lot of admiration.

Speaking to the Subpar Podcast, McCarty named Matt Kuchar and Harris English as two players who have been really “cool” thus far.

“Honestly, probably Kuch and Harris. Both of them were really cool those days. I don’t know a ton of the guys. Most of the guys I played with on the Korn Ferry have been either rookies recently or guys who came down and went back up,” McCarty said.

“I just grew up playing golf with my boys and Korn Ferry tour guys. I haven’t really played golf with anybody who has spent time inside the top 50 or 100 in the world that much, so it will be very cool to experience that.”

English was just two shots back of McCarty heading into the final round in Utah before eventually ending the tournament six shots back.

PGA Tour: Matt McCarty one to watch in 2025

After winning his first PGA Tour event in only his second start, McCarty could well be one to watch heading into the 2025 season.

Many players go their whole careers without winning on American soil; Tommy Fleetwood, one of Europe’s Ryder Cup stalwarts, has never won on the PGA Tour.

It is massive for McCarty to relieve the pressure so early, and the victory could free up his game heading into the major championship season. As mentioned, the American will feature at the Masters and PGA Championship.

However, as the 2025 PGA Tour season begins, the world number 48 will be looking to bolster his world ranking and ensure he gets a stab at the US Open at Oakmont and the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
