Matt McCarty is the new kid on the block in professional golf as he picked up his first ever PGA Tour win at the Black Desert Championship this weekend.
McCarty won by three shots in the end to hold off the likes of Stephen Jager and Kevin Streelman.
For 26-year-old McCarty, the win propels him up the PGA Tour leader-board and also ensures he’ll feature in some big tournaments throughout the coming season.
The tournament in Utah had captured the attention of fans all week due to the stunning surroundings and unique course layout.
And according to McCarty, the tournament organisers also helped him win out on the Sunday by making sure the pins were difficult for the chasing pack to attack.

Matt McCarty on why the Black Desert pins actually helped him win
Speaking to the media after winning in Utah, McCarty praised the tournament and insisted that the pin positions on Sunday had actually helped him over the line.
“Yeah, I thought it was pinned really tough today, which kind of was helpful I guess to have a couple-shot lead. You know, it was really tough to make birdies out there, especially with the wind picking up,” McCarty said.
“So I tried not to get overly aggressive and just tried to hit a lot of greens, you know, kind of two putt around, especially after making a couple birdies on the front nine.
“But, yeah, just desert golf. Super comfortable environment, the dry heat. I was dying in Mississippi last week in the humidity. Felt nice. Barely broke a sweat out here.
“Yeah, I don’t know. It’s just cool. And the views and the place is awesome. Honestly too, being the first time that the tournament has been here, like I’ve never seen any of those courses, so kind of level playing field with all these guys that have been out here for so long.
“Kind of told myself that at the beginning of the week and just prep as normal. We played fairly aggressive around this place I think all week. Just kind of stuck with our game plan today, which I think was helpful.”
Matt McCarty shares how his life will change after winning the Black Desert Championship
There’s no doubt winning a PGA Tour event is a life-changing moment and McCarty himself has admitted that things will indeed alter for him now.
“Financially, for sure!,” McCarty quipped when asked how things might change now.
“But I am just really excited for all the opportunities that come with this. This is what I have wanted to do. To be able to do this this quickly and be able to play in all these tournaments I am going to be able to play in coming up is going to be really special. I am just looking forward to that.”
Certainly, winning on TOUR is massive and McCarty will now hope to back things up as he continues into the rest of the year and 2025.
