Matt McCarty became the newest PGA Tour winner after his superb success at the Black Desert Championship.
Smylie Kaufman labelled it a ‘win, win, win’ for McCarty, who held off Stephan Jaeger to clinch the title by three shots.
It was just his second PGA Tour start as a member, with the American having won three times on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Kaufman was left confused after McCarty’s success, with the latter receiving a Masters exemption with his win in Utah.
McCarty will still be celebrating the success, but he must now switch his focus to the Shriners Children’s Open.

PGA Tour winner Matt McCarty reveals thoughts on Phil Mickelson
TPC Summerlin hosts the event in Las Vegas this week, in what is the next event in the FedEx Cup Fall schedule.
But thanks to his Black Desert Championship win, McCarty will now have the opportunity to meet many of his golfing idols in the near future.
Asked which players he would like the opportunity to come across in his Shriners Children’s Open press conference, McCarty said: “Yeah, obviously as a lefty I grew up a huge Phil [Mickelson] fan. Meeting him down the road would be really cool. For our generation, just Tiger [Woods] is unbelievable. That would be amazing.
“But I don’t know. I met [Jordan] Spieth in Texas this year. I actually played with a few buddies of his in a pro-am and he came out and talked to me. Honestly, I think I just love like kind of his vibe out there and how he talks to [Michael] Greller (Spieth’s caddie) and everything.
“It was cool meeting him and he was super nice to me. Be cool to see him again honestly. I feel like just kind of the chaos that he has, seems to have in his rounds, I really like that.
“He’s probably been one of my favourite players I guess of the more modern guys. Yeah, it’s just crazy. Yeah, anybody that’s a lefty I root for. All those guys would be sweet.”
Can Matt McCarty win back-to-back PGA Tour titles?
It would be a fantastic achievement if McCarty could follow up his Black Desert Championship win with success in Nevada.
The American ended on 23 under on the lava fields of Utah, winning on just his third PGA Tour start overall.
He began the year on the Korn Ferry Tour, but has proven to other players that anything is possible ahead of the 2025 season.
