Everyone who plays golf is critical of their own game, none more so than PGA Tour professionals.

Viktor Hovland was even underwhelmed with his swing after winning the Valspar Championship last month.

And there’s no place better to expose any weaknesses than The Masters at Augusta National.

One PGA Tour player explained at this week’s RBC Heritage that he’s been “rubbish” throughout the 2025 season.

Matt Fitzpatrick criticizes himself for difficult 2025 season so far

Matt Fitzpatrick was one of the best players in the world not too long ago.

The Englishman won the 2022 US Open and has been an important part of three of the last four European Ryder Cup teams.

Unfortunately, he’s been out of form lately and tumbled all the way down to 75th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Fitzpatrick also parted ways with his caddie recently as he’s been playing the “worst” golf of his career.

“Not a lot. It’s rubbish, simple as that,” he said. “It’s been awful. Yeah, it’s been the worst I’ve ever played, in fact. So yeah, there was plenty of room for improvement.

“Hopefully, this is a good week to make a start. I feel like I’ve done some things this week that hopefully get me back on track and go from there.”

The 30-year-old said that he’s driven the ball well in 2025, but his iron play has been nowhere near good enough.

He explained: “Yeah, a bit of everything. Every week seems to throw something at me, putting bad or chipping bad. Mostly, it’s been that the irons have not been good enough, and then obviously that puts pressure on everything else, as well.

“I’ve actually driven it okay this year, and that’s probably the only positive, but outside of that, everything else has not been good enough, and then obviously that puts pressure on everything else, as well.”

Matt Fitzpatrick says whether he’s thinking about the 2025 Ryder Cup already

Fitzpatrick made Luke Donald’s winning team for the 2023 Ryder Cup and was expected to be at Bethpage in September.

However, if the competition were tomorrow, he would probably not even come under consideration for a captain’s pick.

He realizes that he needs to play much better to make the European team, saying the event is not on his mind at the moment.

Fitzpatrick added: “Not in the minute. Miles off it. Yeah, I’ve got no interest in that at the minute. That’s not the plan.

“The plan is to get myself playing well first and then obviously… I think everyone could say the same thing. It takes care of itself, then it’s on everyone’s mind, but I’m a long way off it, so it’s not entering my mind at the minute.”
