As the rumbling continues in golf over LIV and the PGA Tour coming to some sort of agreement, those players on the LIV tour know that they’re chances of winning majors are reduced as each year ticks by.
Apart from former major winners like Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, most of the field on LIV requires on their DP World Tour status or special invites when it comes to playing the majors.
With the OWGR not recognising LIV events, players like Tyrrell Hatton and Joaquin Niemann find themselves tumbling down the rankings despite playing well.

Hatton has expressed his desire to play in the Ryder Cup and that means doing well and featuring in the majors.
However, while Hatton harbours those ambitions, fellow European player Thomas Pieters has once again bluntly spoken on his own future.

Thomas Pieters says why he’s content to not play anymore majors
Thomas Pieters recently secured a move to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces team over on LIV and he’s been outspoken about his move to LIV before.
Pieters has said he’d quit golf if he was forced into a bigger schedule due to any LIV/PGA merger and now, he’s spoken openly about the majors.
Speaking in an interview for Golf Monthly, Belgian star Pieters admitted that he’s content with the call he made to join LIV and while he’d take playing another major, he’s fine if it doesn’t happen.
“If you’re in the top 10 of LIV you’re a fantastic golf player and you should be playing at the Majors. Obviously, it is up to all these governing bodies to come together and figure it out but, personally, it’s something that I haven’t really thought about,” Pieters said.
“I made the decision, there’s no Majors for me and that’s fine by me. If I happen to play another Major then it would be amazing, obviously, but it’s not on my schedule.”
Thomas Pieters’ record in major championships
Pieters is still only 32 and has plenty of life in him yet. Indeed, looking back at his majors career, he’s actually made a decent fist of things.
His best finish of them all came in 2017 when he finished fourth on his Masters debut to catch the eye over in America.
Thomas Pieters’ best results in major championships
The Masters 2017 – 4th
The Open 2018/2022 – T28
US Open 2020 – T23
PGA Championship 2018 – T6
Since then, it’s not gone too well at Augusta, with a T48 in 2023 his next best effort.
Still, he has a number of top 30 finishes in the majors and is by no means out of his depth when he does play, meaning Pieters is very much a player who’d be capable of doing the business in 2025.
