The world of professional golf might want LIV and the PGA Tour to come together in some sort of capacity but one current LIV player has suggested he’d walk away from the sport altogether if it happens.

Talk of a deal between the PGA and LIV tours has dominated golf over the last two years.

As yet, though, nothing is close to being announced and while Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan parade at the Dunhill Links together, golf remains split.

The likes of Rory McIlroy and others have become increasingly frustrated by the apparent lack of progress.

However, while the likes of McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau want the game to come together, LIV golf star Thomas Pieters seems to share a different view.

In fact, Pieters has suggested he might quit completely, depending on the deal.

Thomas Pieters says he could quit golf due to PGA and LIV talks

Speaking in an interview with Bunkered about the current situation in golf, Pieters admitted that he doesn’t yearn for playing more events.

In fact, Pieters likes his current lifestyle and suggested he might quit if forced to play more.

“Honestly, I couldn’t play 25 to 30 events a year. I think I’d quit. It was a big part of me coming over having young kids and having more time at home,” Pieters said.

“At first, I thought I could spend all that time practising and now you look after your kids and practice.

“When I quit golf in five or ten years, my kids won’t care how many times I’ve won or how many times I’ve played in the Ryder Cup,” he said. “It’s selfish if I want to win and play that many Ryder Cups.

“It’s not going to change me as a person. I care about it, but not as much as everybody thinks I do. My kids are going to outlive my golf performance by a long way. I care about golf but it’s not my life.”

Pretty selfish comments from Pieters

While everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone can have their own feelings on the game, this looks like a case of Thomas Pieters looking out for Thomas Pieters, which in essence, is fine as well.

Luckily for him, he is probably in the financial position to be able to quit, thanks in part to the money he took from LIV.

However, there are others who need the game to sort itself out. Sure, golfers can make an amazing living but there are so many players that those near the bottom and middle of the ranks are the ones suffering right now.

So, while Pieters might be ready to sail into the sunset, the game is bigger than him and others who won’t be too fussed.

Put simply, LIV and PGA have to find a solution or risk turning fans off completely.
