Keegan Bradley produced a stunning six under par 66 on day one of the BMW Championship to give his Tour Championship aspirations a massive boost.

Bradley is currently ranked 50th in the FedEx Cup standings, having landed the last available spot in the top 50.

Billy Horschel called Bradley during the St Jude Championship to inform the USA Ryder Cup captain that he had made it through to this week’s event.

After just making the field, Bradley shared whether he looked to play more aggressively due to his low position in the FedEx Cup standings.

Speaking immediately after his first round in Colorado, Bradley confirmed that he looked to approach his first round as usual despite needing to make up ground.

“No. I don’t play very well when I do that. I just went out and played as if I would play a normal round,” Bradley explained.

The American then shared what he told his caddie before his first 18 got underway. “We talked about it before, Scottie and I. We just said, let’s just play normal,” Bradley added. “Try to birdie any hole — I can anyway, whenever. That was the plan.”

Keegan Bradley set for huge FedEx Cup boost

If Bradley can continue to perform over the weekend, he will give his FedEx Cup ranking a considerable boost.

Currently, the 38-year-old is on course to jump 46 places up the fourth in the standings and place himself firmly in contention ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Elsewhere, Adam Scott and Alex Noren have also jumped inside the top 30 after excellent starts at BMW Championship. Those currently dangerously close to the cut line include Justin Thomas, Sepp Straka and Aaron Rai.

Brian Harman and Denny McCarthy both started the week inside the top 30 but have since fallen out after the first day’s play. Finally, Si Woo Kim was the big winner on Thursday, jumping up 11 places to 33rd in the standings.
