Justin Thomas has suggested he could have one big advantage over the rest of the field at the Travelers Championship this week.

It’s been a frustrating season for the two-time PGA Championship winner, having missed the cut at The Players, Masters and the US Open.

The 31-year-old is undoubtedly a long way away from the player who clinched the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

Despite some positive signs with the putter, It was more of the same for Thomas at Pinehurst No.2 last week.

Thomas’ 11 over through his first two rounds saw him miss the cut, and he is one of several high-profile names looking to bounce back at TPC River Highlands in this week’s signature PGA Tour event.

Speaking ahead of the Travelers, Thomas has suggested he doesn’t need to play his best to make birdies this week.

“It’s exciting, feeling like I don’t need to play unbelievable golf to make four or five birdies in a row,” he told the Golf Channel. “It’s a totally different style of golf and totally different grass from last week.”

The American also claimed that his weekend off could give him an advantage as he seeks his first win of 2024.

“All of us are trying to get acclimatised,” he added. “I’d have loved to have played well last week but I’m using the thinking that a weekend of rest could have been the best thing that happened to me. I think everyone is pretty beat up and tired, as I saw yesterday, and I don’t have that issue.”

Justin Thomas desperately needs to return to the winners’ circle

It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly has gone wrong for Thomas over the past couple of years.

The American was one of the hottest properties in the game, and after his win at Southern Hills, he appeared to be back to his best.

However, the rise of the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau has perhaps been too much to deal with.

To put it simply, Thomas can’t quite keep pace with the world’s best players at the moment, particularly in the major championships.

And unless he significantly improves before Royal Troon, another battle to make the cut could ensue.
