Two-time major winner Justin Thomas has endured an up-and-down PGA Tour season, having failed to reach his usual high standards.
Thomas currently sits 19th in the FedEx Cup standings and stands an excellent chance of competing in the Tour Championship at East Lake at the end of the month.
Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler’s form has been hard to contend with, and Thomas believes his inconsistency is preventing him from returning to the elite level.
The American’s up-and-down form was summed up at The Open Championship. The 31-year-old carded a brilliant first round before shooting 45 on his front nine on Friday and eventually barely making the cut.
Thomas then matched his best nine-hole score at The Open during the third round before once again falling out of contention on Sunday at Royal Troon.
Speaking to the No Laying Up Podcast, the two-time PGA Championship winner, has now shared what his fellow professionals think of his inconsistent form.
Justin Thomas: PGA Tour players know I’m playing well

When at his best, Thomas has shown glimpses of excellent form this season. His eight-under round in the first round of the Scottish Open was particularly eye-catching.
The American has now claimed that other players believe his game should be yielding better results.
Thomas explained: “I think a lot of people that have either played with me or watched me play know that I am playing exponentially better than the results are showing, and that’s just a part of it and staying patient on my end.”
Justin Thomas can still rival Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Tour Championship
Thomas, famously, missed out on the PGA Tour playoffs by one shot after hitting the pin with his birdie chip on the 72nd hole at the Wyndham Championship. Thankfully, no such stress will ensue this season, with the American well inside the FedEx Cup top 70.
In fact, Thomas is well-placed to challenge at East Lake if he manages to find some form in the first two playoff events.
The beauty of the PGA Tour finale is that there’s hope for nearly all the players who make the trip to Atlanta. The challenge is to ensure a spot is firmly secured before the latter stages of the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club.
After a decent links stretch and an extended break after The Open, Thomas has no excuses to fall back on should his inconsistent form continue into the latter stages of the 2024 campaign.
