Justin Thomas’ love of the Ryder Cup is well-documented, and the two-time major winner holds an imperious record in golf’s biggest event.
Thomas was heavily involved in the decision to select Keegan Bradley as Team USA’s captain for the 2025 edition at Bethpage Black. As a result, the 31-year-old is privy to sensitive information involving golf’s biggest event.
The Ryder Cup typically takes place in September, although the exact time the match-play event is meant to be held is not set.
Celtic Manor hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup at the start of October, whereas the Whistling Straights face-off in 2021 took place two weeks earlier.
Thomas has now called for clarity regarding the scheduling.
Team Europe and Team USA would benefit from Justin Thomas’ Ryder Cup suggestion

Speaking on the latest edition of the No Laying Up Podcast, Thomas detailed his desire for more consistency over when the Ryder Cup is played.
“I wish there was something a little more consistent that could be when it is every year,” said Thomas. “Because I feel like the first one I went to, we went straight from Atalanta there. Then we’ve had others where it’s five weeks off after the Tour Championship.”
Thomas went on to pitch the concept of an agreement being struck over when the Ryder Cup must be played.
The American added, “Like maybe there’s an agreement after Atalanta that it can’t be more than this amount of weeks, and it can’t be this amount of weeks close to a big European Tour event. I do think there are efforts being made to make things better.”
Justin Thomas has work to do to make the 2025 Ryder Cup team
Currently, Thomas’ participation at Bethpage is far from certain. The American is currently enduring a tough PGA Tour campaign and will be hoping to improve during the off-season.
Thomas, famously, managed to pip Bradley to a spot on the 2023 Ryder Cup team, making his inclusion in the decision-making process fairly bemusing. Ironically, the two-time major winner could now be relying on Bradley in just over a year.
Despite uncertainty over his current place on the team, Thomas reaffirmed his confidence in Bradley’s position as captain after Team USA announced Zach Johnson’s successor.
It’s an interesting appointment by those stateside, and only time will tell whether the clear risk will pay off against Luke Donald’s European Team next September.
