The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black is just over a year away, and Team USA will be looking to bounce back from their damaging defeat in Rome.

The heavy loss at Marco Simone Golf Club continued the USA’s awful record on European soil. Their last away victory came at the Belfry in 1993.

However, Europe have not won on American soil since the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012 and will be looking to continue their excellent recent form in New York next year.

Of course, Luke Donald is set to lead Europe once more, and Keegan Bradley is the shock name to captain the American team. Tommy Fleetwood has previously spoken of his joy at seeing Donald retain the captaincy.

Bradley was a surprise appointment, and The Golfing Gazette has examined three outside picks the 38-year-old could consider.

Russell Henley

Russell Henley’s impressive 2024 season has gone under the radar. The 35-year-old snuck into contention at last week’s Open Championship and is currently ranked 12th in the world.

Sitting 13th in the FedEx Cup points standings, it’s been an encouraging season for Henley, who has placed in the top ten six times.

The four-time PGA Tour winner has made all the major cuts, and also placed inside the top ten at the US Open.

If Henley can continue his impressive form next year, he’s undoubtedly one for Bradley to keep an eye on.

Akshay Bhatia

Lefty Akshay Bhatia has also enjoyed an impressive 2024 and looks to be going from strength to strength.

The 22-year-old has already tasted victory this season, coming at the Valero Texas Open the week before the Masters.

Furthermore, Bhatia finished T17 in the testing US Open at Pinehurst No.2. With some positive major championship performances under his belt, he could be a mainstay of the US team at Bethpage Black and beyond.

Bhatia also has an excellent chance of qualifying for the Presidents Cup, which will be underway in September.

Cameron Young

Despite vice-captain Fred Couples suggesting Cameron Young would feature in Rome, the 27-year-old was eventually snubbed by Zach Johnson and left at home.

However, as the 2025 edition comes into view, Young may leave Bradley with no option.

Young is still waiting for his first PGA Tour win, but despite this, he has been one of the eye-catching performers this season.

The American hit the headlines at the Travelers Championship after carding a 59 and also finished T6 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

A T9 finish at Augusta was eye-catching, and it feels like Young has more to come. As 2025 rolls into view, he will no doubt be looking to prove Johnson wrong and book his spot on the Bethpage Black team.
