Tommy Fleetwood has given his verdict on Luke Donald being named the Ryder Cup captain once again for 2025.

Donald’s team excelled in Rome last year to dominate the USA and bring the trophy home for Europe.

The next one is back in the USA’s backyard at Bethpage Black. And once more, Donald has been given the task of leading the Europeans.

And after Lee Westwood had his say on the matter earlier this week, recent DP World Tour winner Fleetwood has now given his thoughts.

Tommy Fleetwood shares his verdict on Luke Donald being Ryder Cup captain

Speaking on the Rick Shiels Golf Show on YouTube, Fleetwood offered his take on Donald’s selection.

And for Fleetwood, it seems to be the best decision possible.

“I think it’s perfect. I think a lot was made about the landscape of the European Ryder Cup team changing this time. Not necessarily the team that was lined up to play, but the vice-captains and everything. What people would have expected two years ago, it was clearly very different. Effectively when I made the team in Paris, you feel like you are walking into that era of Ryder Cup legends and they were going to be here a long time and I think just with the way things have been, the continuity of Luke and the team around him, I think it was definitely the right thing to do for us,” Fleetwood said.

Donald will be only the fourth person to be named consecutive captain for a Ryder Cup team. Further, Tony Jacklin is the only one to actually lead a team to two wins in a row (Golf.com).

Donald’s task this time around might be complicated by the inclusion of LIV players. Jon Rahm, arguably Europe’s best player, has recently made the jump to the new tour.

Rahm, alongside Rory McIlroy and others, is expected to lead the charge for Europe once again.
