The Travelers Championship is set up perfectly heading into the weekend, with Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler currently tied for the lead.
Thomas was in scintillating form on day two of the Travelers Championship, firing a six-under par 64 to climb to the top of the leaderboard.
After the second round at TPC River Highlands, Scottie Scheffler raved about Thomas and his exceptional focus.
The two-time major champion is highly respected by his peers, as both a golfer and a person.
However, he hasn’t been anywhere near his best over the past couple of months.

Thomas’s performances in the majors continue to be a concern, with his erratic driving really holding him back.
However, he could completely turn things around with a victory at the Travelers Championship this week.
Justin Thomas wants to change something after day two at the Travelers
Thomas made five birdies in a row on the back nine at TPC River Highlands on Friday.
That scorching run catapulted him up the leaderboard, and he now has a good chance to win his 17th PGA Tour title this weekend.
Thomas was clearly delighted with his round of 64.
However, he did tell reporters how there is one thing about himself that he would like to change, when asked whether his missed cut at the US Open really hurt him.
The 32-year-old said: “It unfortunately hasn’t become any easier. I still get pretty pissed off about it and I still — it weighs on me more than it should. I wish that — I think you hear a lot of guys talk about it, their golf defining them, it doesn’t change who they are as a person, but I still very clearly think of myself as my person of how I’m playing golf.

“I would like to change that, but it’s just the reality; it means a lot to me. You could say it’s good or bad.
“But yeah, coming to a place that I like and I feel like I kind of know, it’s a lot easier for me to get over last week versus maybe if I was going to a course that I haven’t had success at or I feel like I have a hard time playing, then it could be a little, like, uh-oh, what are we going to do kind of thing.“
Justin Thomas must address two glaring problems if he’s to win again
Thomas obviously played very well on day two of the Travelers Championship.
However, he has been far too inconsistent over the past few years in general.
We only need to take a look at his stats this season to see why he has failed to contend in so many big events.
| Stats | Justin Thomas |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 95th |
| Strokes gained approach | 12th |
| Strokes gained scrambling | 127th |
| Strokes gained putting | 15th |
| Strokes gained total | 6th |
Thomas has to address his driving and scrambling issues as a matter of urgency, if he is to return to his former glories.
He proved that he’s capable of doing just that with his win at the RBC Heritage earlier this season.
However, we all want to see Thomas produce the goods on a more consistent basis going forward.
