Team USA might have won the Presidents Cup again but one of the standout stories from the week has been the behaviour of Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler.

International star Kim was pumped up all week long but things threatened to boil over on the opening day as he and Scheffler went back and forth.

At the time, Scheffler laughed off the situation with Kim but as the weekend progressed, it was still a hot topic.

Indeed, Kim brought it up again just yesterday as he suggested Team USA had been a touch unsportsmanlike towards him.

And speaking about the whole scenario with Kim and Scheffler, European legend Justin Rose has suggested that it’s just how things go sometimes in big team events.

Justin Rose gives his verdict on Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim beef

Speaking on Sky Sports about the issues surrounding Kim all week, Rose admitted that in team golf, sometimes the emotions can sneak out and ‘snowball’.

“It’s fascinating to see it all unfold and bubble away. Obviously I’ve very much been in the Ryder Cup and entrenched in it and sometimes you’re not really aware of the knock-on effect or what you think what is thinking is just within your team room,” Rose said.

“But if it slips out it can have a huge snowball effect. It might have been something quite small, he’s chosen to pick up on it, mention it, but you’ve got to look these guys in the eye week in week out and… that day is so important when you try to put away another tournament and you don’t want these other layers of narrative getting in there.

“But you owe it to your team to play your heart out.”

Kim and Scheffler battle ignited the Presidents Cup

Everyone will have an opinion on this but at the end of the day, the battle between Scheffler and Tom Kim really did bring something to this Presidents Cup.

It created a bit of spark and ‘needle’ right from the get-go and ultimately, that’s what this event needed.

The Presidents Cup is always a secondary thought really compared to the Ryder Cup and even Wayne Riley has suggested making it a mixed event to spice things up.

However, if this year’s event can carry some of what we saw between Scheffler and Kim into future events, then it may be just fine for a while yet.
