The Presidents Cup has been a touch more exciting than a lot of people imagined it would be but Wayne Riley has suggested the event needs to make a big change in the future.
The tournament is often seen as a bit like a little brother or sister when compared to the Ryder Cup and the USA’s dominance in the event hasn’t helped matters.
This week’s action has seen some inspired play though and crucially, we’ve had a bit of needle as well with Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler’s run-in right from the get-go.
However, there’s plenty of opinion on where the tournament could head in the future.
And according to Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley, the Presidents Cup should become a mixed event involving men and women.

Presidents Cup organisers told to make big change for the ‘good of the game’
Speaking on Sky Sports about the future of the Presidents Cup, commentator Riley suggested it’s time for the men and women to come together for future tournaments.
“The Presidents Cup needs an injection and we thought we had it after the 5-5 after two days,” Riley commented.
“We haven’t got it and now it’s going to come under the microscope, it’s going to come under criticism.
“My personal opinion is that I’d like to see ladies and men play. I think it would be great for our game and I just feel for the good of the game, there’s a great opportunity here.”
Riley makes a good point
The women’s game is growing and growing and with some huge stars like Charley Hull, Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko, there’s definitely an argument to involve them more with events like this.
The Presidents Cup could very much be the tournament that we see both male and female golfers competing together and crucially, it gives the tournament a USP.
This year’s tournament in Canada has been a success in the main but there’s always scope for improvement.
A mixed format, then, could well be the way to go.
