Hideki Matsuyama came out on top in The Genesis Open today, carding a magical final round of 62 to win the event comfortably in the end.
Matsuyama came from nowhere really to see off the leading contenders like Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, who simply fell away as the day wore on, albeit both did well to remain in the top five and see things out well.
For Japanese star Matsuyama, it was another nice win on the PGA Tour and another $4m in the back pocket as the tour slowly builds towards the first major of the year at Augusta in a few months.

Of course, things might have been different this weekend had Jordan Spieth not been disqualified for signing for an incorrect score after his second round. Spieth was firmly in contention and playing well before being caught out and removed from the tournament.
However, still full of high spirits and seemingly looking to make a joke of things, Spieth quickly took to social media to congratulate Matsuyama on his win, before telling him to be mindful of that pesky scorecard rule.
Jordan Spieth will be gutted but shows his light-hearted side
To be fair to the American, he owned the mistake all weekend and admitted he was very much the one in the wrong when it came to his DQ.
This is a tongue-in-cheek comment from a player who is obviously watching on from afar and feeling a touch gutted that he wasn’t in contention.
Matsuyama was simply brilliant on the day today but there is also a lot for Jordan Spieth to feel good about heading into the next few events.
He looked more in touch with his game than he has for a while and that bodes well going towards April and a shot at winning The Masters again.
