Jordan Spieth is desperately trying to rediscover his best form, and he is seemingly prepared to go to any lengths to get back to the top.
Watching Spieth struggle out on the golf course over the past three years has been tough viewing at times.
The 31-year-old has been a shadow of the player who won three majors in a two-year span from 2015-2017.
Spieth had to withdraw from the Travelers Championship last week, and that was a real setback for him.
The three-time major champion has actually shown some really encouraging signs over the past couple of months.

He had a top-5 finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May and recorded a top-10 at the Memorial Tournament in June.
Spieth even suggested his goal is to return to world number one, although he seems a long way away from doing that right now.
He obviously feels like he needs some outside help if he is to truly get back to his best.
Jordan Spieth spotted with new club in his golf bag
Spieth has clearly decided that now is the time for a big change.
It has seemed like the Dallas native has been banging his head against a brick wall at times this season.
His struggles are not through a lack of trying though, that’s for sure.

And now Spieth is seemingly open to making a big change with his equipment to help him really kick on heading into the vital next three months of the season.
A mallet putter was spotted inside Spieth’s golf bag on Wednesday:
Spieth actually experimented with a T.P. Mills blade putter at TPC Scottsdale earlier this year, but it’s a very rare sight to see him play without his trusty Scotty Cameron 009 triple black putter.
However, he admitted that he did actually practice with a mallet model back in 2017.
“I used a mallet-style putter in 2017 and then I threatened last year when I was – but I never ended up using a different putter, but I was trying out a few different options, different heads and stuff like that,” Spieth said. “I’m just trying to figure out what helps me stroke it the best, and I’ll use that one.”
It will be very interesting to see what putter Spieth has in his bag when he returns from injury, hopefully at the Genesis Scottish Open in July.
Jordan Spieth’s putting stats from the last 11 years on the PGA Tour
Spieth has actually been striking the ball superbly well in 2025.
He currently sits in 18th position in ‘strokes gained total’ this season.
However, his putting has let him down badly. That said, it really isn’t anything new. Here is how his numbers look from the past 11 years on the PGA Tour:
| Year | Strokes gained putting | Putts per GIR | Putts per round | One-putt % |
| 2025 | 71st | 25th | 56th | 35th |
| 2024 | 101st | 14th | 45th | 63rd |
| 2022-23 | 79th | 54th | 20th | 13th |
| 2021-22 | 155th | 53rd | 98th | 82nd |
| 2020-21 | 33rd | 3rd | 5th | 5th |
| 2019-20 | 105th | 15th | 10th | 10th |
| 2018-19 | 2nd | 1st | 1st | 1st |
| 2017-18 | 123rd | 48th | 83rd | 64th |
| 2016-17 | 48th | 2nd | 20th | 28th |
| 2015-16 | 2nd | 1st | 1st | 2nd |
| 2014-15 | 9th | 1st | 1st | 1st |
As you can see from those numbers above, the idea of Spieth being a consistently exceptional putter is somewhat of a myth.
Sure, he was the best in the business when he first started playing on the PGA Tour, but that was more than a decade ago now.
It’s easy to see why he has struggled to win golf tournaments when looking at his numbers on the greens from the past four years.
He has just two PGA Tour wins to his name since his victory at the Open Championship in 2017, and that’s simply not good enough for a player of his calibre.
Spieth needs to address his putting problems as a matter of urgency, and it seems like an equipment change could be in the offing to help him rediscover his best form on the greens.
