Jordan Spieth is very much on the outside looking in regarding the race to qualify for the US Ryder Cup team in September.

Keegan Bradley will lead Team USA out at Bethpage Black next month for the Ryder Cup, and Dallas native Spieth still has grand designs about making the team.

Just last week, Spieth said he probably needs a good run of results to make the Ryder Cup team.

He definitely needs to do something in order to make Bradley stand up and take notice, because there are so many good American players who are in excellent form right now including Chris Gotterup and Cameron Young.

Spieth recently said he is very close to getting back to his best, and the proof will be in the pudding in that regard.

The thing is, Spieth still has his destiny in his own hands.

A win or two in the FedEx Cup Playoffs would be a big statement of intent ahead of the Ryder Cup, and we all know that he is more than capable of achieving that.

Jordan Spieth says if he believes he should be on the Ryder Cup team

Spieth has been very open about his struggles on the PGA Tour in 2025.

Injuries certainly haven’t helped him but even when he’s been 100% fit, he has flattered to deceive.

Spieth spoke to SIRIUSXM PGA Tour Radio about the upcoming Ryder Cup and opened up on what he believes he needs to do to make the team.

He said: Well, it was my loftiest goal to start the season. I was coming in with almost no carryover points from 2024 which hurt. It was unusual for me for a Ryder Cup year, and then obviously skipping the first month of the season and starting late.

The idea that I have a chance for it is very cool. If you told me I had a chance in August I would have been excited about it. Having said that, I’m on the outside looking in right now, I recognise that.

I keep trying to convince Keegan that it will be a lot for him to play too, so he should probably give that up that pick. It just seems like way too much to do. So I’m trying to open up all the opportunities I can (laughs).

It would be incredible, I’ve played in five of them and I would love to play in another five if I can or more. This one will be special being at Bethpage. It would mean a lot to me but I know I’m on the outside looking in.

I guess I could still automatically qualify but the point is I’m still reliant on the captain and the assistants to think that I would be an additive addition to the team, so that’s my goal.

Jordan Spieth’s 2025 results on the PGA Tour

2025 certainly hasn’t been a vintage year for Spieth.

He has struggled with his game throughout the entire season really.

Spieth simply has to show something extra over the course of the next few weeks, if he is to force his way onto the Ryder Cup team.

There are just way too many American golfers who are playing a lot better than him right now.

A win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship is exactly what Spieth needs if he is to make the Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black next month.
