Jordan Spieth will be desperate for a good week at the Wyndham Championship, as he looks to make a late climb up the FedEx Cup and Ryder Cup standings.
Spieth has endured a really challenging 2025 season on the PGA Tour – one that got even worse for him when he suffered an injury at the Travelers Championship back in June.
Since then, the 32-year-old and his wife have had their third child. It cannot be easy to remain at the top of your game whilst juggling general life challenges with three young children at home.
Spieth played The Open Championship earlier this month, but that was the only four rounds he has completed since the US Open in mid-June.
The man from Dallas, Texas, was the best in the business a decade ago. However, he is now a shadow of his former self.
That said, Spieth still has ambitions to return to number one in the world. That just seems a long way from happening right now.
He needs a good result this week at the Wyndham Championship to set him up nicely for the remainder of the season, and that would be a really good start on his quest to return to the top of the game.
Jordan Spieth states where his game is at after six weeks off from the PGA Tour
Spieth has a lot of work to do if he is to feature in the Tour Championship at the end of next month and at the Ryder Cup in September.
Incredibly, he is without a win in over three years now.

But can he turn things around and get his game back to where it was?
Spieth was asked how he is feeling generally about his game ahead of the Wyndham Championship.
The three-time major champion said: “Yeah, I mean, it’s one of the better tracks that we play all year. And also, as we look ahead to next week, first Playoff event, there’s a lot of similarities in this grainy bermuda and stuff like that. I’ve had five of six weeks off so I’m a little anxious to get going and playing more golf. Yeah, I’m really excited to be back here. I feel like my game’s been in a good spot, I just haven’t been playing tournament rounds and really rounds in general. I had some rust at The Open and hopefully kicked a lot of it off, and if we can get off in a nice stretch here in hopefully a four-week stretch for me.“
The 32-year-old was asked whether he has been frustrated by not playing as much as he would have liked recently.
Spieth responded: “It’s been OK. Obviously it’s not like I’ve been sitting at home hurt or bored. I guess I was for a week of that, but obviously with a newborn there’s plenty going on. So being out here is kind of like, it’s a weird feeling because my other two were born in the fall, so I haven’t had this situation before. Yeah, it’s like when you’re playing well, you want to be playing. Like you don’t want to be peeking in October and you’re trying to figure out how to just kind of hold that and improve on that through the new year. It feels like every month I’ve gotten a little bit — my wrist has not been an issue and I’ve structurally been doing things the right way. I feel like I’ve been putting good rolls on the ball and just waiting to kind of pop off on a good putting week. So I don’t feel like I have to do anything different, I just need to keep my head down and if it works out, it works out. If it doesn’t, it’s coming soon.“
Spieth then responded when asked whether it is purely his putting that is holding him back.
He said: “Well, it’s like I’ve had nine holes here where I didn’t make anything, it could have been 4 under on nine holes to spark a round, or I had nine holes of kind of some poor iron shots where you kind of throw yourself out of it so I end up finishing somewhere 7th to 13th instead of having a chance to compete. 2 It’s just a little bit of the consistency in some ball-striking and some putting. Both are ahead of average, both are gaining shots on the field on average, but I just, I’m looking to have kind of consistent gains round after round. I’m showing I can do that day after day whether I’m playing at home or playing out here, it’s started to really come together lately so now I just have to execute when it matters.“
Whilst Spieth says he has had a six-week break, he did play The Open earlier this month, as mentioned above.
That said, it’s clear to see why he is very rusty, having played such little golf throughout what is an incredibly important stretch of the season.
Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour stats in 2025
Despite his struggles this season, Spieth has actually made some strides in most areas of his game.
Here is how his stats in 2025 look so far:
| Stats | Spieth’s rank in 2025 |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 33rd |
| Strokes gained approach | 52nd |
| Strokes gained around the greens | 20th |
| Strokes gained putting | 79th |
| Strokes gained total | 16th |
Spieth’s numbers have actually been solid this season, but it’s clear to see that his putting has let him down.
If he can find a way to be more consistent with his putter, Spieth definitely has the ability to win again on the PGA Tour very soon indeed.
