Jordan Spieth’s place in the Open Championship field was in jeopardy after suffering a neck injury at the Travelers Championship.

Spieth was forced to withdraw during the first day of the tournament two weeks ago and has not played a competitive round since.

He and his partner are also expecting another baby soon, so the likelihood of him travelling to Northern Ireland was even more questionable.

The former Open champion has now decided whether he will tee it up at Royal Portrush in search of a second title.

Jordan Spieth will play at The Open Championship next week

Spieth revealed to Kay Adams that he is no longer dealing with the neck issue and is free to play at The Open next week.

The 31-year-old will miss the Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, but the final major on the calendar and the FedEx Cup Playoffs mean his season is far from over.

“I’m good,” Spieth explained what went wrong at the Travelers. “It was a weird neck spasm thing that just came up, and I just could not get through the round. It was a strange deal.

“I have a good team here that I work with, and I knew it was going to be short-lived, and it was only a few days.

“I have been back to full strength getting ready for The Open Championship next week, our last major of the year, and then the play-offs after that. A lot of big events left, but I have no restrictions, which is great.

Spieth further confirmed his entry into The Open Championship and admitted he hopes to count on his previous experience at Royal Portrush.

“Yes, I will be at The Open Championship,” he added. “I am going to be a bit of a late arrival, but I will be there.

“Luckily, I played The Open at this course in Northern Ireland six years ago, so I won’t feel like I will have to learn a new place.

“But just trying to get all the work in before baby comes and make sure everybody is good, and then I will head overseas.”

Jordan Spieth decides whether The Open is his favorite tournament

Spieth has won 13 times on the PGA Tour and is only one major away from completing the career Grand Slam like Rory McIlroy did earlier this year.

He has already lifted the Masters, the US Open, and the Open Championship trophies in his career, and he has a clear favorite tournament.

“I remember a lot [about winning The Open],” Spieth continued. “This is going to be my, maybe 13th Open, and it’s probably my favourite tournament in the world.

“We play on different golf courses, we go around the home of golf, and we bounce around these courses with 200 years of history, some of them.

“And there is just nothing like it. The crowds are incredible. They are the most knowledgeable fans in the world. And it’s the most global tournament that we play.

“It really is fun. You have to battle all the conditions. We probably will play in four seasons in a day a couple of times, which is also unique, so I very much look forward to it.

“When I won in 2017, I had a pretty awesome finish. I had the lead and lost it, and then I had a huge heat run the last five holes to finish the tournament, which will go down as one of the best stretches of golf I have ever played, so it was timely as well. So hopefully we can run a few more of those back in a couple of weeks.”
