Golf fans have reacted angrily on social media after the latest update concerning Jordan Spieth hit the news.
Jordan Spieth endured a really challenging 2025 season on the PGA Tour and is still without a win since April 2022.
Spieth is well known for trying absolutely anything to help rediscover his best form but as things stand, he is still a long way off the level he displayed consistently a decade ago.
From 2015 to 2017, Spieth won The Masters, The US Open and The Open Championship.
At the time, he was the best golfer in the world, but he is now ranked down in 62nd position in the standings.
After Spieth’s Open Championship win in 2017, it seemed like it would only be a matter of time before he went on to record double-digit major wins.
However, that win at Royal Birkdale remains his last triumph in the majors.
Despite Spieth’s struggles, though, and his subsequent tumble down the world rankings, he is still someone who always plays in the very biggest and best golf tournaments.
Golf fans react as Jordan Spieth joins Hero World Challenge field
On Wednesday, Spieth’s place in the Hero World Challenge via a special invite was confirmed on the tournament’s official website.

However, Tiger Woods‘ decision to include the three-time major champion in the field has been criticized.
Many golf fans reacted in dismay to the news that Spieth has been granted special dispensation to play in the Hero World Challenge.
One simply said: “The hero is a joke of an event. It’s just OWGR points for the boys club.“ While another made a great point, saying: “Will he Play a FedEx Fall event to secure the top 60? It would be a terrible look to expect/feel entitled to a SE if he doesn’t support the tour or try lock it down by himself.“
This sentiment was supported by lots of others. With comments stating: “In other news, water is wet. How long can they prop him up? Embarrassing for all concerned.“
And “Would never have guessed that Spieth would get yet another invite/exemption.”
Others were equally passionate in their response.
“Shocking Spieth got one – How many does he get this year for the elevated events?” one exclaimed. While another added: “Tiger is desperate.“
The views continued, with Spieth continuing to draw criticism: “At some point this should be embarrassing to him.“
While the fans who commented above certainly have a fair point, it cannot be argued that Spieth is still very much a needle-mover, so to speak, in the world of professional golf.
The 32-year-old carries huge appeal to golf fans the world over, and that’s why he will be playing in Woods’ event in December.
Jordan Spieth named as 2025 Hero World Challenge field is finalized
The Hero World Challenge will once again take place at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, and the field features 10 of the top 20 ranked players in the world.
Scottie Scheffler will be looking to win the tournament for the third consecutive time and he will be joined in the field at Albany by Justin Thomas, J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, Harris English, Keegan Bradley, Justin Rose, Sepp Straka, Hideki Matsuyama and Cameron Young.
Sam Burns, Corey Conners, Chris Gotterup, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harman, Andrew Novak and Alex Noren will also be in the field for Woods’ tournament in December.
Meanwhile, Spieth will be joined at the Hero World Challenge by two other special invitees – Akshay Bhatia and Billy Horschel.
It must be said, that looks like one of the weakest fields we have seen at the Hero World Challenge for quite some time now.
And it’s impossible to ignore the fact that inviting LIV golfers Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau would have made for a much more exciting golf tournament.
Perhaps that is something that will need to happen next year in order to inject some real excitement back into the event.
