Jordan Spieth burst onto the professional golf scene more than a decade ago now, and he won three major championships before his 24th birthday.

Spieth was successful at The Masters in 2015, before winning again in the very next major – the US Open at Chambers Bay.

The now 32-year-old then triumphed at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in 2017.

He will be relishing heading back to Birkdale next year as he looks to rediscover his best form.

During Spieth’s Open Championship win in 2017, he hit one of the most memorable shots of all-time on the 13th hole after taking a drop from an unplayable lie out on to the practice ground.

He made bogey from there and went on to bounce back immediately with a birdie on the 14th hole on his way to victory.

Spieth also made big storylines at The Masters with some truly exceptional putting on his way to victory at Augusta National in 2015.

Meanwhile, his win at the US Open at Chambers Bay two months after his Masters triumph was all about grit and determination more than anything else. But which tournament does Spieth himself view as the best in the world?

Spieth may not have been in contention to win the most important golf tournaments for a while now, but he has experienced what it feels like to win the biggest three events in the world.

Given the Texan’s unbelievable talent and ability, he is obviously capable of succeeding again in major championships.

Perhaps a return to Royal Birkdale in 2026 will provide him with the spark that he needs to find his magic on the links once again.

When speaking to The Open’s official website, Spieth made it very clear which tournament he believes is the best in the world.

He said: “I’m very excited to see The 154th Open returning to Royal Birkdale next year. It’s obviously a special place for me. In some ways, it is the most memorable victory that I’ve ever had. It was probably the most dramatic.

“I remember many of the shots that I hit throughout the entire week, I remember the house I stayed in and I obviously remember walking onto the 18th green and being called ‘Champion Golfer of the Year’. To be able to walk around and really embrace what is the greatest 18th hole display in all of golf and receive golf’s most incredible trophy, it was a dream come true for me.

“In my opinion it’s the best golf tournament in the world – and the fans are a huge reason for that.”

What Jordan Spieth said is so special about The Open fans

Spieth is clearly very appreciative of The Open’s storied history.

He’s also a big fan of the fans who adorn the fairways during Open week.

Spieth explained: They are the most knowledgeable fans in the world and then you have those massive grandstands where you get a great amphitheatre setting for links golf.

“Northern Ireland was unbelievable, the support that was there. It’s the most worldly tournament. What’s cool for us as players is that we’re very aware of where our ball is at all times. It’s incredible. The fans know when a shot is up to the calibre that it should be or when it’s not. And then there is nothing like that walk up the 18th every year.”

Going to play in a tournament once a year where he is so appreciative of the fans must make it all the more special for Spieth, especially given the fact that he’s a previous winner of The Open.

And while he obviously very much cherishes his Masters and US Open wins, it’s clear from his comments above that The Open Championship stands out head and shoulders above the rest in his eyes.
