Jon Rahm is still yet to win a major championship since making the move to LIV Golf from the PGA Tour at the end of 2023.

However, Rahm is believed to have pushed for a big change on LIV that would undoubtedly enable him to fare better in the majors.

The 30-year-old has finished inside the top-10 of every LIV tournament he has played this year aside from one, where he ended up in 11th place.

Rahm has actually cut an incredibly frustrated figure on LIV this season, mostly due to the fact that he still hasn’t won an event in 2025.

Interestingly though, Rahm believes he has actually improved as a player on LIV.

Whether that is true is up for debate. However, what for certain is the fact that Rahm has struggled to contend in major championships since joining LIV.

He is a golfer who should be right up there near the top of the leaderboards in all four majors every single year.

Unfortunately for him though, that just hasn’t been the case over the past two seasons.

Jon Rahm has pushed for LIV Golf rule change

Hudson Swafford has been in the news over the past couple of days, after he exposed some home truth about LIV Golf.

Swafford left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in 2022 but he lost his playing privileges with the Saudi-backed outfit at the end of the 2024 season.

He’s now in no-man’s land, with a return to the PGA Tour not possible until the 2027 season at the earliest.

Swafford was speaking on GOLF’s Subpar Podcast about the current state of LIV Golf.

And he highlighted how Rahm has been pushing for LIV to make one specific change.

Swafford explained: I know Jon Rahm has pushed for 72 holes over at LIV. Some guys have had some push back but I know there has been a group who have pushed for 72 holes for sure.

If LIV did change their tournaments to 72-hole events, the likes of Rahm would undoubtedly be better prepared to succeed in the major championships, both mentally and physically.

It’s no coincidence that only two majors have been won by LIV players since the league was formed in June 2022 – Brooks Koepka at the 2023 PGA Championship and Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 US Open.

Switching to a 72-hole format would be a major step in the right direction for LIV Golf.

Jon Rahm’s major record since joining LIV Golf

Rahm is unquestionably one of the best golfers in the world when he’s at his best.

He won two majors whilst a member of the PGA Tour – the 2021 US Open and the 2023 Masters.

However, aside from a brief spell during the final round of the 2025 PGA Championship, he hasn’t properly contended in a major since he moved to LIV Golf.

Here are his results from the last eight major championships that he has played, after he left the PGA Tour:

Major20242025
The MastersT-45T-14
PGA ChampionshipCUTT-8
US OpenT-10T-7
The OpenT-7T-34

There is obviously a lot of room for improvement there for the Spaniard.

If LIV Golf was to change to 72-hole tournaments, Rahm would undoubtedly be helped on his quest to win another major.

There is a huge difference between winning 54-hole and 72-hole golf tournaments, and any professional will tell you that.

Whether the Saudi-backed golf league is prepared to change their rules at the request of Rahm remains to be seen, though.
