Three weeks before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, some of the world’s best amateur golfers competed in the Walker Cup.
The historic competition between the United States and Great Britain and Ireland took place at Cypress Point in California.
The USA won the event 17-9 after a dominant display in the final singles session, as several players rose to the occasion.
After watching the Walker Cup, former PGA Tour player Johnson Wagner is particularly excited about the future of one American golfer.

Jackson Koivun tipped for PGA Tour stardom by Johnson Wagner
PGA Tour fans may already be familiar with the name Jackson Koivun, after his appearances at seven events this season.
Koivun has finished in the top 10 at his last three professional events: the ISCO Championship, the Wyndham Championship, and last week’s Procore Championship.
Wagner is convinced that the 20-year-old has “all the skills” to have a successful career on the PGA Tour when he decides to leave college.
“This Jackson… holy moly,” he said. “He already has his [PGA Tour] card. He wants to go back for his junior year, probably his senior year at Auburn as well. He got his card through the PGA Tour U accelerated.
“I think he’s going to be the best young player that we’ve seen in a generation. I think Jackson Koivun has all the skills. I love his golf swing. I like his demeanor. Every time I watch him play, I’m impressed.
“The ease with which they are going out and getting top 10s and contending in PGA Tour events as amateurs is mind-blowing to me right now.”
Jackson Koivun’s performance at the 2025 Walker Cup
No American player scored more points at the 2025 Walker Cup at Cypress Point than Jackson Koivun (three).
He and Tommy Morrison lost to Connor Graham and Tyler Weaver in foursomes on Saturday morning, but they got revenge against the same duo on Sunday.
| Format | Partner | Opponent | Result |
| Foursomes | Tommy Morrison | Connor Graham/Tyler Weaver | Europe 3&1 |
| Singles | / | Tyler Weaver | USA 4&3 |
| Foursomes | Tommy Morrison | Connor Graham/Tyler Weaver | USA 1up |
| Singles | / | Tyler Weaver | USA 3&2 |
Koivun’s most impressive performances came in the singles sessions on Saturday and Sunday, winning with a combined five holes to spare.
It seems unlikely that he will play in another Walker Cup, as he is expected to turn professional in the foreseeable future, so at least he made the most of his opportunity.
