John Daly has enjoyed a stellar golfing career, with his exploits on the course even involving a round with American President Donald Trump.

Daly thinks Tiger Woods can win another major, such is his belief in his fellow PGA Tour legend, who has just undergone surgery on a ruptured achilles.

Ludvig Aberg hopes Woods can recover soon, but his injury will rule him out of the Masters, a tournament he has won on five occasions.

Woods boasts 15 major wins overall, while Daly has emerged victorious on two occasions during his stunning career.

PGA Championship and The Open Championship successes are among his five PGA Tour titles, arriving in 1991 and 1995 respectively.

The 58-year-old has now shared insight into one of the more intriguing moments of his career, having been asked on Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt Tonight if he has ever played golf with Trump.

“A bunch of times,” he said. “I met him in 1992, he came in in his helicopter. We played in a pro-am together and we had a great day and I got to know him.

“We sat on the back porch of this club, it was a tournament in Massachusetts, I can’t remember the name of it.

“But I get my bottle of whatever and Diet Coke on the side and he is drinking Diet Cokes and we had a nice conversation about 30 or 45 minutes.

“He says I will be the next President of the United States, I just have to find the right time. I said you go get them Daddy Trump, I will be voting for you.”

John Daly says ‘best players need to play’ as PGA Tour and PIF talks continue

Trump has, of course, been playing a key role in the ongoing discussions between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund (PIF), with a promise made to bring about a merger.

The PIF funds LIV Golf, with the breakaway tour seemingly becoming increasingly closer to reaching an agreement with the more traditional PGA Tour.

Sharing his verdict on the tussle, Daly said: “I think they just need to work it out. We are obligated to play in 15 events a year on the PGA Tour, I know on the Champions Tour is a little less, to keep our insurance and keep our retirement plans going.

“But if those guys want to go to LIV and they are going to pay them a lot of money, I always said you are going to play 29 tournaments.

“Because you have to play 15 on our tour and have got to play 14 on theirs. That’s the solution. Let’s go play golf.

“Golf is a global game, everybody should have the opportunity to play. I think these guys, you are born, you live and what is it for?

“To make sure you take care of your family. LIV Golf has taken care of some people’s families, that’s the way I look at it.

“I just want Jay [Monahan]… thank God Trump is getting involved because I want it to work out. I have friends on the PGA Tour and the LIV Tour because golf needs to be seen worldwide and the best players need to play.”

Which other players has Donald Trump played a round of golf with?

Current US President Trump is certainly an avid golfer, with the American well known for his love of the game.

He has a whole host of courses located all around the world, and has in recent times taken on many high-profile players.

That includes Tiger Woods and his son Charlie, who met up with Trump before the recent Super Bowl at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau meanwhile attempted to break 50 with the President on his blossoming YouTube channel last summer, before taking on the same challenge with Daly a month later.

And Trump’s ventures with the clubs have not been limited to golfers, with footballing legend having also played against him once upon a time.
