John Daly knows a thing or two about the greats of the game and what it takes to win major championships and he’s now made a bold call about Tiger Woods.

Daly himself won two majors, while Woods has gone on to win 15 and be just three behind the great Jack Nicklaus.

Of course, it’s been some time now since Woods was a winner. His victory at the 2019 Masters was memorable but since then, injuries and form have stopped him competing.

However, for John Daly, it’s not time to give up on Tiger just yet and he’s suggested that if Phil Mickelson can do it, then so can Tiger Woods.

John Daly makes claim about Phil Mickelson when predicting Tiger Woods’ next win

Daly was speaking on the latest episode of Like a Farmer podcast and was asked about Tiger and if he feels he can win again.

And rather than just predict a standard win, Daly believes Woods can win another major as well.

“Bernhard Langer has said something that Tiger may go after, I don’t know but Tiger loves to break records. I think he’s got the will and the game to still win majors, even hurt,” Daly suggested.

“I always root for him. I believe in him. I don’t think Tiger is done yet. I just… something in me says. Three years ago I thought he could still beat Jack’s. I am still not beyond that.

“Phil Mickelson won PGA on a very difficult course at 51 years old. It can be done. If Tiger gets healthy man, he is in shape. He’s 49 now with a body of a 20 year old. I hugged him at PNC. He hugged fat, I hug a brick! He’s so strong it’s a joke!”

Who John Daly thinks is best…Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus

Daly was excellent value on this podcast and spoke about a number of golf issues, including going into depth about Woods and Nicklaus.

However, for Daly, it is Woods who is the best player ever, despite having huge respect for Nicklaus.

“I think you choose in generations. I don’t think you can choose one over the other. I think Jack is the greatest of all time player. Because of his record, but I still think Tiger is the greatest player of all time. The reason I say that is no disrespect to these guys who won all these majors back in the day, but look where Tiger is. Every guy [was there] when Tiger came out to win a tournament,” Daly said.

“When Jack played, he was playing against 12 to 15 or 20 guys. I’m not disrespecting it, but it’s just that the record will show. If you look at all the winners back in the day when they were winning. It was Jack, Arnie, Watson, and Nelson.”

That debate will rage forever but unfortunately for Tiger, Nicklaus’ 18 majors now looks uncatchable, meaning the argument will always have substance to it.
