Joel Dahmen received a four-shot penalty during the first round of the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin.

Dahmen, who was the star of Netflix’s hit series, ‘Full Swing’, realised he had a 15th club in his bag on the 4th tee.

The presence of the four-iron in Dahmen’s bag saw his two double bogeys added to what had been a solid start for the American.

Dahmen has now explained the incident in greater detail during his post-round press conference.

The American admitted he wanted to get mad after realising the error.

“I think there might have been a couple of curse words, but I had a lot of people out supporting me today, helping our family foundation. It was one of those moments where you want to lose it and get mad—mad at yourself, mad at Geno, mad at the world,” Dahmen explained.

“But you look around, and people are donating a bunch of money to our foundation, and life is not that bad. It’s a mistake. It’s going to happen. Unfortunately, it happened at this moment in time.”

Dahmen also revealed that his ever-popular caddie Geno felt ‘terrible’ after the mistake.

“But, yeah, just stripped one down the middle after that and had plenty of birdie putts; we just didn’t make them today. Yeah, one of those where you live and learn. Geno feels terrible. I feel terrible,” Dahmen added.

“We’ll tee it up tomorrow morning and try to make a bunch of birdies.”

Unfortunately, Dahmen couldn’t bounce back from the mistake and currently sits 131/132 players at the FedEx Cup fall event.

After the four-shot penalty, the American made three bogeys and two birdies to finish the day five over and facing a battle to make the cut.

At the other end of the leaderboard, Taylor Pendrith is the pace-setter on ten under after carding an exquisite 61.

Rickie Fowler is six under, and Tom Kim, who is looking to make PGA Tour history at TPC Summerlin this week, is two under. Kim will also need to shoot a good round on Friday to ensure he’s in Las Vegas for the weekend.
